It was a crack between the curtains.
Ariana glared out through it with wide open eyes.
The weather was grey. It rained.
Naked trees, muddy lawn, a high hedge. Heavy clouds.
She dared to pull the curtains further away from each other.
Now, she could see more of the world.
Wishing, at least.
"Ariana! Step away from the window!"
Her mother's hands were strong.
"You know you're not allowed to do that!"
She was pushed into her room.
"Here you are safe."
No windows.
No glaring looks.
No people.
Locked in.
"It's for your own good, dear…"
