Alice
It's been months since I've seen Edward in person. I always see him in my visions but I missed his presence. The rest of the family has it worse. They can't see him at all. They only have their memories of him.
We have over fifty years of memories of him, but we only had a few months of memories of Bella. The last one we had isn't very pleasant. Jasper had tried to kill her when she cut her finger. He knew it wasn't anyone's fault, but he still blamed himself.
I think we all blamed ourselves for what happened at Bella's birthday party. We think that we could have done something to stop it. Jasper thinks that if he had controlled himself, Edward and Bella would be together and everything would be back to normal. We try to feel something but pain and depression for Jasper. He had it hard enough feeling his own pain without feeling ours, too.
Edward forbids me from looking into Bella's future. He also didn't want us interfering with her life anymore. I tried my hardest mot to look but sometimes I accidentally slip. I am so attuned to her and I was curious as to how she was doing. When I did look, I hated what I saw; she was thin and her eyes were dead.
Jasper felt my distress and pulled me onto his lap. He held me like that and after a while, Emmett was holding Rose the same way. Carlisle and Esme were in a similar position. I didn't need Jasper's gift to realize we were all grieving, except for Rosalie. She didn't care about Bella and she was more annoyed with Edward. Esme loves Edward more than the rest of us and we all know it. We don't mind so much. She loves us, too, just not as much. She also thought of Bella as a daughter. She was so used to the idea of a whole family that it hurt worse when it was torn apart. Jasper always sent a wave of calm throughout the room and we were all grateful.
Suddenly, I was seeing something that wasn't Tanya's living room in Denali. I saw Bella outside on a cliff near the ocean. I didn't recognize the scenery. She must be somewhere outside of Forks. The sky was dark with an approaching storm. Bella walked slowly to the edge of the cliff with a small smile on her face. This wasn't her smile; it was filled with too much pain. She reached the edge, closed her eyes and smiled wider. She rolled onto the balls of her feet.
"What the hell is she doing?" I hadn't realized I said that out loud.
"What is it, Alice?" Jasper's voice was calm but strained.
I ignored him, concentrating on by vision. Bella flung herself off the cliff and even though she was screaming, she seemed happy. She hit the water and the ocean muffled her screams. As she went deeper into the water, her whole future disappeared.
"NO!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
"Alice, what's wrong?" The voices of my family surrounded me.
"Bella…" I was breathing harder than usual. "She…jumped off a cliff…I can't see her." A dry sob broke through my lips.
"She's…No, she can't be…She's not…dead…is she?" Emmett refused to believe his little human sister wasn't alive anymore. Carlisle looked like he didn't want to believe it, either. Esme looked like she was in more pain than she was in months. Jasper was in shock. Rosalie was Rosalie; she didn't care in the least.
It was silent for a few minutes. Then Emmett spoke softly, "Should we tell him?"
"I don't think we should. Who know what he would do," Carlisle's voice was pained.
"I'm going to Forks, to see if Charlie needs anything," I said.
"I don't think that's a good idea, Alice," Jasper said, calmly.
"Jazz, he'll need someone there with him. I'll only be gone a few days."
He looked at me for a few moments. "Fine, hurry back." He kissed me lightly on the lips and after a few minutes, I was on my way to Forks in Carlisle's Mercedes.
