Well, this is my first attempt at writing a Blackadder story so please don't be too harsh everyone! I always hated the ending of the Goodbyeeee episode and took it upon myself to edit it. J

I don't own anything recognisable here.

The whistles blew and we all clambered out of the trenches to face the Germans machine guns. None of us were truly expecting to come out alive, we were all convinced this would be our last moment on this earth. But something intervened. Fate maybe? Or perhaps Luck? It would be one of the first times a Blackadder was lucky but there's a first time for everything.

A shell saved us. One of the very weapons designed to kill us in fact saved the lives of myself and, dare I admit it, my friends. As we slogged through the mud towards the enemy a spray of bullets caught Darling in the leg and he fell with a pained cry. George was running ahead of me, a look of terrified determination plastered on his face and Baldrick was just behind me, scrambling over bodies and struggling through the wire.

Then the shell came. It flew through the air like a bird and there was a moment of silence just before it hit. It slammed into the ground ahead of us and a wall of earth reached up to engulf me and my companions. Thrown backward by the force of the mud I caught a glimpse of Baldrick reaching over to me but then my head slammed against a dead soldier's helmet and I knew no more.

It was dark when I regained consciousness. So dark I was sure I was dead. I raised my head slightly and glanced around. The push appeared to be over, it was quiet and almost peaceful out in no mans land. Pushing myself up onto my elbows I discovered I appeared to have been thrown into a shell hole amongst several bodies. When I tried to move further however a stabbing pain through my chest and arm stopped any movement and I groaned with sheer agony. Thinking I was surrounded by dead I did not suppress this urge and moaned again.

"Sir?" a voice asked out of the darkness. I almost had a heart attack at the sound and twisted my head to locate the person. My gaze fell upon a dirty and dishevelled, but very much alive George.

"George!" I said incredulously. "How? What on earth..."

"You're alive Captain!"

"It would appear so George. Pity, heaven would have hopefully been less painful."

"But that's brilliant sir! You survived the big push!"

"Keep you voice down, keep your voice down! We don't know whose listening. Now listen closely, are you wounded at all?"

"Not much sir: got a corker of a headache and a broken toe I think but that appears to be all."

"Good. Do you know how we can get out of this god forsaken pit and back to the English line?"

"Haven't a clue sir."

We lapsed into silence for a few seconds until another voice said:

"I'm…pretty sure…it's th..that way."

"Darling! How did you survive that? I saw you go down!"

"Not entir…ly..sure Blackadder…but the…Bri…British line is….that…way."

I was utterly amazed. Darling was here! He had survived, we had all survived! Oh, except Baldrick it seemed. Never mind, with great fortune comes great loss, or something of the sort. Now we just had to see about getting back to British soil.

Well, Blackadder, Darling and George are alive but where's Baldrick? And how are they going to get to British soil? R & R please!
