[AUTHOR's NOTE: I am tragically aware Harry Potter and the Wizarding World aren't mine but J.K. Rowlings. I have my bank account to prove it.]

She never told anyone. Not even Ginny, whom she told everything. Luna stared at the full moon through the trees and giggled. She felt excited. She was about to soar again, though it still felt odd to steer her body right. But she was getting the hang of it. She knew it was illegal. But she relieved her guilt by thinking about all the horrible things the ministry had done. That nasty thing they had sent as a teacher, which was a lethifold in disguise. It was so obvious. Nobody believed her though. Nobody ever did.

It had been difficult of course. What she thought to be the easiest part was the need of a mandrake leaf. She went to professor Sprout, who was always friendly and happy to help. Unfortunately for Luna, the professor told her she gave them all to Slughorn. Two days after that unfortunate event, Harry asked her to go to one of Slughorn's parties. It was the perfect evening to ask the professor. As night fell, he got quite tipsy and more and more jolly. At one point she sighed about what a pity it was she couldn't find a mandrake leaf for her collection. He gave her a handful and she put them in the tiny clutch she had brought with her. The next week she told everyone she would be on a silent protest the next month. When asked about her cause she started to blab something about Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. So everyone kind of stopped asking. It was so easy. Nobody ever listened to her. Except Ginny of course.

She took one last look at the silvery moon, thinking about that poor professor Lupin. She did every full moon. It was unfair he had to suffer through this condition. Hating the moon, while it was so eerie and beautiful it sent shivers down her spine. She then closed her eyes and thought about all the things she loved. She saw her dad's face. He was smiling that silly grin of his, telling her another ridiculous story she took for granted. She thought about the Black Castle, their home, as she called it in her mind. She thought of the times she sat on the roof, the sunlight fading, reading her favourite books. She thought of her mother, with her gentle blue eyes and her sunny personality. Singing songs, encouraging her to express herself. She thought of Neville and a blush crept up her face and her heartbeat went up. She thought of Ginny, always there for her when she needed someone to talk to. She thought of them together, cracking jokes about the other students for a change. She let the feeling of happiness they all gave her flow through her body. She felt it in her fingertips, her toes, even her hair. And then she felt her fingers pricking. It felt like her limbs were being sucked into her body. Her hair shot back and she started to itch real bad, as feathers started to grow. Meanwhile her mind was still there. She was trying to focus on the memories instead of the aching sensations in her body. It were mere seconds but it felt like it would never stop. All of a sudden it was over. In the place where Luna had stood, now sat a black raven, still as a statue, with its eyes closed. When it opened its eyes, they shone bright through the night. They were a shocking silvery blue. The raven took a little hop, flapping its wings awkward. But then she spread them out wide, and waved them with grace. She shot into the air. The moonlight fell on her black feathers, giving them a silvery shine. Luna was laughing on the inside. She was so glad to be in the air again. She was free. She was the Moonraven.
