Not So Everyday Miracles
Alice and Frank Longbottom were improving. They'd been improving since the battle of Hogwarts when their last tormenter, Bellatrix Lestrange, was killed. When her son Neville had visited them for the first time since the battle to tell them of Bellatrix's death, Alice's eyes had focused on him for the first time in over 10 years. Neville had broken down, sobbing into Alice's hospital robes. Six months later, both Alice and Frank were talking again. It was mostly just nonsense words but when Neville came to visit them after he completed his Auror training, Frank took his wife's hand and they said together: "Neville." In a few years, they were like children again, learning everything over. There had been a sticky moment three years after Neville became an Auror when his mother accidentally levitated everything in the ward, including the other patients. It appeared the part of her brain that controlled magic had also reset and now she had to learn control all over again. The same happened with Frank; except he turned anything he touched purple for a week. But to Neville it was worth it; every minute was worth it. He had his parents almost back. The Mungo's professionals called it a miracle, they'd though the damage was permanent, but that was nothing compared to the miracle that occurred when Hannah went into labor.
Every attendant and nurse in St. Mungo's would swear up and down that what happened that night actually happened, and did repeatedly for the swarm of reporters that followed. Hannah Longbottom went into labor at 3:49 am on April 12th, 2005. And at 3:50 am, Alice and Frank Longbottom's eyes shot open and they sat bolt upright in bed. Then, as the terrified nurses told it, they looked at each other for maybe five seconds and ran out. They reached the maternity ward two floors down in record time to find their son clutching his wife's hand as she pushed, tears in his eyes. Those tears only came harder when he saw his parents, aware and focused, around him. Alice took Hannah's other hand and helped coach her through the birth, while Frank held his son for the first time in almost 24 years. And when Neville was presented with twins boy and girl and asked what their names were, he choked out through his sobs, "Franky and Allie Longbottom."
Neville had never been happier than he was at that very moment. His family surrounded him; he had his parents, his gorgeous wife, and now two beautiful children. Miracles really did happen.
Just a bit of headcannon that I've wanted to type up for a while, especially because it sets up for two main characters in my next generation works. Some people say that Neville and Hannah wouldn't have kids, but Jo never said anything like that. And Neville would make an amazing dad.
