"Sweetie, I told you, we don't have to do this. The TARDIS is perfectly capable…"

"Yes, yes, I know, dear, but I want to do this myself. Come along now," he said, taking her hand.

River rolled her eyes, but followed her determined husband all the same.

He led her into the TARDIS medical bay. "Right now, River, lie down over there."

"Alright then," she said, groaning as she lifted her heavily pregnant self onto an examination table.

The Doctor wheeled an ultrasound machine next to his wife with an enthusiastic grin on his face.

"Do you have any idea how to use that?" She questioned quite patronizingly.

"Yes, of course I do!" he declared, all the while attempting to detangle himself from the transducer probe wires.

River raised an eyebrow in disbelief.

"Okay, River, I…just need…you to…" he uttered in the midst of dropping the probe onto the floor. River watched with an amused expression on her face as her husband fumbled around. "Got it! Got it!"

Oh, her beautiful idiot.

"Sweetie, do get on with it."

"Right, yes of course. Now, Doctor Song," he said, booping his wife on the nose. "Allow me."

The Doctor lifted his wife's shirt to expose her round, pregnant stomach. He paused for a moment, lost in thought, smiling fondly at the sight of their baby growing within her.

He placed a loving palm on her skin and kissed her belly, lingering for a moment to nuzzle his cheek against it.

"Hello." He whispered softly to his unborn child.

River chuckled at his affection. "Sweetie, you're not going to be able to see the baby just by pressing your face up against me."

The Doctor smiled and placed a quick peck on his wife's stomach before standing himself up straight.

"Right, now," he said, clapping his hands together, "River, let's have a look, shall we?"

River couldn't contain her happiness. "Oh yes, please do," she said, her eyes lighting up.

And so, with a flourish, The Doctor squirted the ultrasound gel on River's stomach.

"Oh, it's cold." She gasped with a slight chuckle.

"Sorry, dear." He said, placing the probe up against her belly.

"Hmm…it doesn't matter." She said with a smile.

They were silent for a moment as both their gazes were directed to the screen.

As The Doctor moved the probe around, the array of black, white, and grey danced about, until finally he found what he was looking for.

"There we are," he breathed in amazement. "Two heartbeats, a little button nose, ten tiny fingers…" a giggle of joy escaped from his lips. "Oh, she's beautiful!" He exclaimed.

"She?"

"Yes. River, we're having a girl!" The Doctor was ecstatic.

River was beaming with happiness as she stared at the screen. "A girl." She whispered.

With his free hand, The Doctor caressed his wife's cheek. "I love you."

"I love you too sweetie." She was able to murmur in response before he claimed her lips.
