Jayne never liked the whole soulmates thing. The thought of being tied down to one person for your whole life? Yeah that wasn't gonna happen.

He constantly covered his wrist just to hide the stupid mark that was seared into his skin since birth. That stupid symbol was on some chicks body and she was probably out there waiting for her Prince Charming to arrive. That was never gonna happen with Jayne as your soulmate.

His mark was just a simple circle with small slanted triangles coming off of it and a blue hue. Wash and Zoe's were dark crescent moons on Wash's bicep and Zoe's ankle, and even though they'd never admit to having them Mal and Inara's marks were pale pink heart shape on Inara's left hip and Mal's rib.

Jayne made it his mission to never ever show anyone his mark. He'd never ever be tied down for the rest of his life.

He had done just that when he'd met her, but for so long he never told her about the mark he bared. It took a lot to hold out as long as he did.

The moment he saw her fall out that box he knew he wanted her. It wasn't until she turned her body just a fraction to the side and he saw her mark that he changed his mind completely. The back of her shoulder had the same blue mark his wrist did. The slight glow come if from her mark went unnoticed by everyone but Jayne, especially since the glow of his could slightly be seen through the wrapping in his wrist.

He didn't pay her much attention and to be honest he was scared to, she was nuts. Moonbrain he liked to call her, it helped him forget how much he wanted her. She wasn't scared of him though. She spoke funny but he could tell she was flirting with him in her own way.

He'd watch her dance around the ship mindlessly humming and he'd feel happier then he ever was. He'd watch her draw in the kitchen and wish to have one of those be his to keep.

But It wasn't until a few days after her 18th birthday that he finally gave in.

"She knows your mark matches" River had snuck into Jayne's bunk.

"What in the gorram hell er ya blabbering on 'bout?"

"Your marks match, you don't want to tell her but she knows." River began to walk closer to Jayne who happened to be at the sink in his room. Jayne had no where to move to so he just stayed, looking at the floor.

"I got no ruttin idea what your going on 'bout but I don't much like it."

Instead of saying anything more River just walked closer and put her hand in his chest staring up at his face. She was still a much deal shorter then him.

He finally looked her in the eye and that's when he lost it he could no longer stop himself. No matter how much he wanted to be the "free man" to never be tied down by just one women he also wanted River so damn much.

"So yer tryin' ta say ya know 'bout bein' soulmates?"

She simply nodded her head and he took that as a go for it and leaned down just far enough to reach the lips he's wanted for to gorram long.

She kissed him back and he felt so great. He never thought he'd be tied down but right now all he wanted was to be tied down. Tied down by River and all her crazy moonbrainess.

All he wanted was to finally be someone prince charming and River was the best candidate. He wanted her drawings. He wanted to just sit and watch her dance for hours without getting bad looks from the crew.

He finally got what he wanted.

I know it's short but I think it's good enough. Tell me what you think. Rayne is one of my favorite ships ever no denying it.
