PROLOGUE
I'm Eddie Brock Jr., and I'm just an ordinary working guy. I'm a staff photographer for the Daily Bugle, doing what I always wanted to do. I recently finished college at ESU with honors. I have a lovely girlfriend named Gwen Stacy. We've been dating since my senior year. My life is satisfying, except for one thing: the death of my father Eddie Brock Sr.
He's been a little rough with me in the past, but only because he wanted me to do good and not end up like him. He was killed unfortunately, stabbed by serial killer Cletus Kassidy. They never caught him and I have to live with that for the rest of my life. I want to help people, but can't. That's the only thing that is unsatisfying in my life. But I will always remember his motto: With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility.
Meteors shot out of different directions in the Manhattan skyline tonight. New Yorkers gazed at the precious rocks as they made their descent. Eddie and Gwen watched the elegant sight from a bench in Central Park. Eddie snapped picture after picture. The shots were sure to get a good amount from good ol' Jameson. "Isn't it beautiful, Eddie?" asked Gwen. "Not as beautiful as you, baby" replied Eddie with a warm smile. She looked so beautiful with her blonde hair glinting in the moonlight and that necklace he bought her for graduation. "Tell me you love me" she said in a sweet tone. "I love you so much, always have" Eddie said back and they kissed each other deeply. A passionate moment under a beautiful sky.
A meteor hit silently some 50 yards away from Brock and Stacy's destination. A black ooze slithered out of the strange rock and reproduced a red/black ooze. Both parted ways. The black ooze slithered the opposite direction, which happened to be Eddie and Gwen's destination….
