Merlin circled Vortigern's Tower on the Lake, the place he had known of from the day of his birth, where he had spoken his first prophesy and where a true dragon lay buried. Thrice and thrice he circled that mighty ruin, whilst a hundred men chanted. Fifty men with gray cloaks and leather robes, left hand flat on the ground and staff in right aimed at the alabaster stones each chanting in a different cadence in different languages creating a nearly organic disharmony. Fifty men chanting in time, fifty men waving their wands in perfect synchronization, fifty men standing in a circle of their own blood creating a counterpoint of mechanized order to the discord of their fellows. A hundred Wizards, Educated educators, scholars and philosophers all, chant with despair in their heart for they are about to hide knowledge in the hopes that none will ever find it. Fifty men pour their personal power into their leader and Fifty men share their connection to the very force of creation. And taping it all Merlin paced one last time. When he finishes his seventh rotation the world seems to stop. The chanting ceases, the wands stop moving in their deceptively casual swoops and arcs and the hundred men seem to hold their breath.
"Obvius" one hundred and one voices command. Merlin, proclaimed by all save himself to be greater than any other mortal, opened his mouth alone and one hundred and one voices entreated "Obvius." Merlin looked at the stars and a with regret in his heart, not regretting the deed, just it's necessity all of his one hundred and one voices beckoned to the universe "Obvius."
And the universe answered.
okay this is my first story. it's probably way too ambitious for a novice writer but i'm gonna give it my best. the plan is for this to be a series and for it to cross Dresden files, Harry potter and Buffy the vampire slayer. sort of. i'm more worried about it being belivable than nitpicking on facts in the series, but i don't want to end up with something unrecognisable. this is just the introduction the feel of the rest of the story is going to be very different from here on out. the next chapter is going to be about harry (potter) which is who the story is going to follow for the most part, unless it takes me in a totally different direction than i think it will. any reviews will be welcome. if something bugs you let me know. if you think it's a neat idea i'll thank you. i know most won't review but that's alright.
