The Night Before.

It was the night before Rose was due to start Hogwarts and Ron couldn't deny that he was sad. His little girl was growing up. He stood at her bedroom door after she had fallen asleep, her trunk was packed, her owl Juliet was out hunting, and her wand lay on her bedside table. He heard footsteps approach him. It was Hermione.

"I know what you're thinking. She'll be fine. She has her many cousins to look out for her, and I can assure you that your mother has told each of your brothers and Ginny to tell their children to watch out for her."

Ron turned around to face his wife. "How do you know?"

Hermione smiled. "Your father told me when we were over for dinner the other night, when you were teaching Freddie how to get rid of gnomes properly. He had a hunch you would be worried for her."

"How?"

"He was the same with you and your siblings."

Ron finally smiled and wrapped his arms around Hermione. "But aren't you worried? Worried she'll do something stupid? Or be put in Hufflepuff?"

"Ron, of course I'm worried! She's my daughter as well. She won't do anything stupid, haven't you on many occasions said she has a brain like mine? But if she does, then we will support her, like we've supported many of your stupid decisions."

"Hey!"

Hermione silenced Ron with a quick kiss. "I still love you though. And Rosie is nothing like a Hufflepuff, she's too brave and smart for them."

Ron wasn't totally convinced but he decided Hermione was right, so with one final look at his little girl, he followed Hermione to their bedroom.

"It just feels strange that she's off to Hogwarts and in two years Hugo and Lily will be there. The house will be very empty." Ron said as he took off his t-shirt and got into bed.

"Oh Ron, that's in two years, besides we will still have the cat and the dog to take care of." Hermione said, snuggling up to Ron in bed.

"Aggie and Fergus don't count, Mione."

"I think they do, we still have to feed them, clean them and take them outside for fresh air. They are like children. And besides, Rosie wouldn't be very happy to find her cat not taken care of."

"She's paying Hugo 2 sickles a week to change Aggie's litter box and feed the stupid thing. I think the cat is fine."

"Oh go to sleep Ron."

A/N: reviews much appreciated! this is my first fanfic in over 2 years and was actually taken from another story I have been working on but felt this could work on its own as a one-shot.

Thank you!
