NO TURNING BACK

Chapter 1

This was my last day as a junior in college at Dartmouth University. I couldn't believe this day finally came. This would also be my last day to study here – I wasn't returning in the fall. A few months ago, I had made the decision to move across the country on my own, and not turn back. I still clearly remember the conversation I had with my parents when I told them of my plans…

"Mom, dad, I have something I would like to talk to you about if you don't mind."

"Sure, honey. What is it?"

"Well, I have decided that I am not going back to Dartmouth in the fall. I am going to move to another part of the country and work there for a while, until I can get a hold on my life…" I wasn't able to continue then to tell them the rest of it before I was bombarded with a million questions. They obviously felt that I had no idea what I was doing and that I was throwing everything away. My parents didn't realize that I had been thinking this through for a few months before even bringing it up to them and everything was already set at that point.

"Stop it! Now! Please just listen to what I have to say before you put in your piece. I am moving to California at the end of the term and there is no way that anyone can change my mind about that. I need to do this, for me. I am not going to just let my education fly out the door, as you must think, but I have had offers to allow me to finish my education online and through supplemental help from Dartmouth so that I can finish my degree in less than a year from when I move. You two have to trust me on this. I do know what I am doing."

Their faces had such a blank expression on them. My mother walked out of the room and wouldn't talk with me the rest of the time that I was visiting them. My father, however, wanted to talk to me and find out what exactly was going through my head when I was putting this all together and planning this. I told him that I had my reasons. To calm his nerves some, I told him some of my plans and how it was all set up. That seemed to help at least some…

I was about to go into my last final, and of course, it happened to be for my hardest class. All of my things were already packed and labeled in boxes not far from the door in my apartment. The boxes were to be shipped to my new address, so I didn't have to worry about loading them up in a car or anything. After all, I was moving across the country. I sat through the two hours allotted for the final, and finished with a few minutes to spare. I didn't know what was with this professor in not wanting anyone to leave before the time was up. However, I used that to my advantage and made sure to check over my work as best as I could. I grabbed my keys to my car and headed off. There's no turning back now.

My name is Bella Swan, and this is my story.
