The Test

Holly glanced down at her buzzing communicator. She was really wondering if answering it would be worthwhile. Artemis Fowl the Second never called to just say hello and she was tired of dealing with world ending crisis when she was supposed to be on vacation from the LEP. However, she knew that if Artemis had located Opal Koboi she really didn't have a choice.

"Hello," Holly said angrily into the speaker.

"Hello Holly" Artemis replied. It was Artemis of course, no one else ever called her.

"Did you find out where Koboi is?"

"No Holly… actually I called to tell you that I'm done"

"Done with what? Done trying to find Koboi? Done saving the world? Done helping people?" Holly was even more annoyed now. Artemis was calling to talk, but it wasn't the type of talk that she wanted to hear.

"Sorry I didn't mean to be that vague. I mean that I am done here at Fowl Manor. I hate acting like I am my parent's happy teenage son. I can't settle for acting normal when I know that Koboi is still out there and I could be spending my time looking for her."

"The LEP has almost all of the techies searching for Opal Koboi including Foally! It's not like you have to do all the work! Even if you want to help you can just explain everything to your mother. She must want Opal Koboi caught more than anyone."

"That's just it Holly. I don't want my family put in danger anymore. My being here makes them a huge target for Koboi. I can't put my mother through that again."

"That's why the LEP has your house under as much security as possible in addition to all the security measures you have!" Holly exclaimed in an exasperated voice.

"I can't take any risk with my family! I may not really fit in with the happy family image my parents are trying to establish for my brothers but I don't want anything to happen to them."

"Well I suppose you are calling to tell me what you are doing then?"

"Yes. Now please do not have a heart attack. I have talked with Foally and he sees the tactical advantages to my decision."

"What decision is that Artemis?" Holly was almost afraid to ask.

"I am moving down to Haven, and am enlisting in the LEP Training Academy."
