That Don't Impress Me Much
I do not own the Hobbit in any way.
This was foolish.
Prince Thranduil felt like an elleth trying to pick out the best outfit to impress an ellon, when in reality, it was the opposite. He had been trying to impress Faelwen for weeks, but the young elleth never seemed to notice.
He was a prince! He should be able to get any elleth he pleased, but for some reason he was attracted to only ended up choosing a green tunic with brown leggings. He decided to leave his circlet in his room.
He went to the stables to visit his new elk. He had asked his father for it, but he didn't tell his father that he wanted it to impress Faelwen. He was the King's son, so of course he should stand out from everyone else. He mounted the elk and led him out of the stable. Thranduil focused his elf hearing and located Faelwen.
She was in a clearing with a couple of other elleths.
He led his elk through the forest to the clearing.
"Here comes the prince!" Caladwen whispered.
Faelwen watched as her companions fawned over the prince.
"Good afternoon, Faelwen", Thranduil said.
"Good afternoon, prince", she answered.
While Thranduil flirted with Caladwen and Alassiel, Faelwen stroked the elk's snout and talked softly to him in elvish. Thranduil was unable to take his eyes off her.
"Prince Thranduil", a guard said entering the clearing, "Your father requests your presence".
"Farewell, Faelwen", Thranduil said mounting his elk. Thranduil followed the guard back to the stables.
"The prince could not take his eyes off you", Caladwen told Faelwen.
"And he only addressed you", Alassiel said.
"He is arrogant", Faelwen said, "He only cares for himself".
"Yes, but you are a princess", Caladwen said.
"It does not matter my station. I would never take someone like him to be my One", Faelwen told her.
A few weeks later, Thranduil had still not given up on Faelwen.
She woke up to a knock at her door.
A messenger stood there with a parcel.
"Who is it from?" she asked him.
"The prince", he said.
She opened the package and found the most beautiful jewels she had ever seen.
Jewels befitting a queen.
"Send it back", she said.
"Excuse me, my lady?" the messenger asked.
"Send it back", she said, "I did not ask for these".
When Thranduil learned that she had sent them back, he was furious. He immediately went to her living quarters.
"My prince, to what do I owe the pleasure?" she asked him.
"Why do you shun my affections?" he asked.
"Because you are going about it the wrong way!" Faelwen snapped, "You are arrogant and I am not impressed by your flattery".
"Ever since you came to the Greenwood, I have desired for you to be my wife. I will get down on my hands and knees and beg if I must", he said.
What Faelwen did next, shocked him. She giggled and then smiled. "That is all you needed to say, my prince", she said.
"But why did you send the jewels back, then?" he asked.
"Because they are befitting a queen and I am not a queen", she told him.
"But will you be my queen?" he asked her.
"Yes, Prince Thranduil. I will be your queen", she said.
