It's still dark, when I pull back the deep red curtains of my bed and quietly jump out. I cross my dormitory to the window and stair into the grey sky. The horizon is bleeding yellow and pink- the start of sunrise. My body is tired and feels heavy from the lack of sleep. However, I find myself dipping under my pillow and pulling out a blue woolly jumper and tugging it over my head. I suppress a shiver and steal my hands into its warm, cosy pockets. The other girls sleep soundly as I cross to the window again.
It looked cold outside- despite the light slowly creeping in the top of the sky was still granite grey, and clouds hung low and fat in the sky. The leaves on the majestic trees that dotted Hogwarts' grounds were a golden, red colour- it was autumn- swayed in the breeze. They looked like great plumes of fire against the stormy, dawn sky.
Everything looked abandoned outside this dormitory- as if the nine other girls and myself were the only ones that were left in this place. Sleeping soundly.
I head downstairs, trying hard to be quiet, but I'm always so clumsy and I trip down the steps, my bare feet slapping against the cold stones. Opening the door that connected the Girls Dormitory to the Common Room below, I wince as it creaks and shut it quietly. More steps. My toes sink into the thick, red carpet that covers the floor. The fire was yet to be lit and it was colder down here.
I move again to the window seat and look out at the same view from my dorm window, a little less high up this time. My hands fiddle nervously with the lion-crested cushions and pick at their gold trimming. The sun had properly begun to rise now. Suddenly, the sky was an abstract painting, of oranges, reds and golds.
The sun is a Gryffindor. I think and smirk, though nervously my hands play with the red, lion-crested cushions I'm leaning on.
A door opens behind me; I hear it shut. I look towards the noise and find Him heading out the door, towards me. He smiles nervously and walks over. Motherly, I attempt to tidy his mop of messy, jet hair and push his glasses up his straight nose. He rolls his eyes and smiles, a quick hug, and then he's standing next to me again. Harry stares out the window too.
I nearly jump when his arms wrap around me and he sniggers. But what if Ron woke up and came down the stairs- what if anyone did? Surely if someone saw it they'd tell Ron. Everyone in Gryffindor was a gossip. Point being, you could only take Harry Potter with his arms around Ginny Weasley in one way= a way Ron, I'm sure, wouldn't take well. He was so over the top about everything.
I turn and try and look at him. Harry stares straight ahead, a glimmer of a smile on his lips, so I give up and turn back to the window- nestling in his warm arms. His chin rests on my head and we stand together in comfy silence.
When the colours of the sky begin to fade to a pale blue, I pull myself out of his arms and head for dorm.
"Wait," he murmurs, sadly and grabs my hand.
"Harry, people will start coming down soon," I mutter back but he stops my protests with the softest of kisses. Our fingers still entwined, I find his other hand resting on my back as he steals his kiss and I reply by tangling my fingers in his hair.
When we pull apart he gives me another shy smile. "Have a good day, Gin."
I smile back, "You too."
