Sam was a lawyer. He liked to eat salad, drink coffee and work out.
Gabriel was a drama king. He snacked on sweets, doubled up sugar on everything and played video games.
Yet when they had ran into each other one day in a train station, Gabriel's guitar knocking Sam's suitcase right from his hand and spilling documents everywhere, it was definitely fate (well, according to Gabe) and after they had finished gathering papers from the platform, they smiled and laughed and exchanged cell numbers.
Their first date was just a simple cafe meet up where they discussed their interests and learnt a bit about each other. Gabriel was witty and enthusiastic, and Sam was charming and patient.
Despite Gabriel's flaws (his eating habits, messiness, and teasing comments) he meant well, and Sam could see that. He just took one look at Gabriel's warm smile and he knew that he was the one.
Others didn't think so...
One day Gabriel had shown up to Sam's work in star print pyjama pants and a 'Sex Pistols' t-shirt, his bag slung over his shoulder and two paper cups of coffee in his hands.
Sam, being used to this, was unfazed. He welcomed his boyfriend with a 'good morning' and a kiss on the lips and he took his coffee and they talked a little.
But when he received dirty remarks from his colleagues, he felt a little cheated.
"What are you doing with a theatre junkie like that, Sam? You have a promising future. You have the potential to marry a lovely girl and have a family!"
Sam didn't answer.
When he came home from work, he told Gabriel what his colleagues had said, but Gabriel laughed.
"Sammy," Gabriel sighed, pausing his game and turning around in his bean bag to face Sam who was sitting next to him in a casual t-shirt and jeans, "when you gave me your number, what was going through your head?"
Sam swallowed and glanced at Gabriel, who was actually ignoring his game. "I dunno..." He replied quietly.
"Well you weren't thinking 'I'm gonna meet a smokin' hot girl who'll want to have my babies someday,' were you? What I'm tryin' to say is… this was your decision. You somehow managed to get through the second date without giving up on me, and that's something. Even after showing up at your work in my pyjama pants, you're still here. And why is that?" Gabriel's eyes seemed to be searching Sam's.
After a moment of moment of silence, Sam replied "Because I love you."
Gabriel's soft lips curved into a warm smile that drew Sam's in for a sweet kiss. He smiled and Gabriel tossed his controller off his lap and hugged Sam tight.
"I love you too, Sasquatch."
