Just a small little one-shot
The wind swept her hair all around her head. A frenzy of dark auburn. She drew in a calming breath. There was so much going on in her life, she needed just a moment of peace that the oncoming storm offered. She changed the grip on her broom and shifted forward to dart over the field at a fast pace. She didn't notice the tears streaming down her face.
This was complete madness. All he had asked was if she wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. He'd been asking her for nearly eight years. The only difference was that he really meant it this time. She could say no, like she did every other time, and he'd never ask again. Or she could say yes.
She pulled the tip of the broom up and soared in to the air at an almost vertical angle. She closed her eyes and opened them just in time to see a figure in the distance. She knew who it was. She turned and flew in the opposite direction. She could fly forever and he would still chase her, until she gave her answer. He never pressured. Only waited.
They were in the middle of a war more Merlin's sake. What was he thinking? Wouldn't it be wiser to wait until everything had settled down? She ignored him calling her name, ignored everything but the wind and what she was feeling. She had turned off her head and was trying to listen to her heart. What did she want to do?
Her train of thought was interrupted by an arc of lightning. She felt the static run up her arms and lost her track. She was plummeting towards the ground. She closed her eyes against the rising ground and spread her arms. She was flying.
She was yanked out of the air and held against a hard body. "Are you fucking crazy?" he yelled in her ear. When she wasn't paying attention, the sky had opened up and dumped its rain all over the earth. "Yes!" she yelled back. He didn't answer, he just directed them over to the tree line. They dismounted in silence and stood next to each other, both of them admiring the storm. "Did you hear me?" she asked.
"What?"
"I said yes. Yes, I'll marry you James."
