Rin lay on her side under the sakura tree, the summer heat making the night too humid to fully rest. Flopping onto her back she let out a heavy sigh, and spread her arms and legs out so nothing touched. If she thought she could get away with it she would have taken her kimono off and slept in her skin. The thought of Jaken running around squawking about her being an indecent human made her giggle. Her giggles suddenly stopped when she heard a noise in the forest.
Straining her ears, Rin tried to be very quiet and listen to the noises she wasn't making. She knew she wasn't alone in the forest. Living in a riverside village, and then traveling with Lord Sesshomaru she knew there were all types of animals living in the forest, some of which were tiny and soft, like bunnies, and others were big and dangerous, like wolves. But being with her Lord she wasn't afraid of anything anymore. Except when it was dark, and it was a new moon, and Lord Sesshomaru wasn't with them. Rin decided the nighttime was really loud.
Scrambling to her feet she decided laying closer to Ah-Un would be a better idea than staying where she was. After two steps she stopped, listening hard. Taking a tentative step she began to walk slower, each step gentler than the last. Something was in the woods, and it was walking with her. Every step she took, it took a step, too, and from the thump of its feet hitting the ground, she knew it was big. Getting nervous, Rin suddenly bolted out of camp into the woods, whatever it was out there running with her.
Rin suddenly stopped dead in her tracks, the beast right behind her, its breath blew her hair from behind her head into her face. Turning slowly around she stood face to face with the largest, fiercest looking beast she had ever seen. The beast looked at her as if sizing her up, then sniffed her so hard it sucked in some of her hair. Snorting, her snot covered hair fell back to her head. Suddenly the beast sneezed, knocking Rin back on her butt.
Laughing wildly, Rin threw her arms up and accepted the tongue bath she knew was coming.
"Ewww! Lord Sesshomaru, that's so gross!" The huge, white dog licked Rin's face for good measure.
