Good evening :)
This is a sonnet inspired by Twilight. I wrote it in '07 or something for my English class at school. It was a voluntary task to hand in when we discussed Shakespeare and his sonnets, so it is written in the form of a classic shakespearian sonnet: 3 stanzas with 3 verses each and a final couplet. I tried to do an iambic pentameter and a cross-rhyme scheme which switches to a pair rhyme in the final couplet.
The persona talks about his jealousy of Edward Cullen, because he got Bella Swan. I didn't specify the speaker when I wrote the sonnet, neither did I really think who could be the one talking, but I guess I thought about Jacob or Mike as the one complaining.
My English teacher never knew this poem was inspired by twilight (at least I hope so Oo) and so I guess it can be taken as a poem about jealousy in general.
Of course I do not claim or own any of the characters, places or anything about twilight and I'm not making money and stuff.
Criticism is very much appreciated, in whichever way :)
have fun reading,
Ina
If he looks at her, I can't breathe easy
And it makes me shiver to see the look
In her eyes: She loves him; and jealousy
Streams through my veins. It is my girl he took.
What is the reason she likes him that much?
What did he do to make her stay
In his arms? What did he promise, he's such
A jerk. All he'll ever do to her is betray.
If I could only know the reason why,
If only I could understand her choice
Then I could at least at night stop to cry,
And even speak to her in a low voice.
But I have to find a way to live on,
Even though I know she's forever gone.
