She was so stupid. Falling in love with a heartless wizard like him was the dumbest thing she had ever done. It felt like she was running toward a cliff. She knew it was going to end with her falling. A tear slipped down her cheek. Before she had even realized it, she was bawling. Even though they had practically lived together for so long, she felt like he was so far away.
She struggled not to fall as the wind pushed her away, away from the moving castle she had once called home. A drop of rain fell on her dress, soon followed by a crack of lightning. It started to pour.
She finally gave in and fell onto the ground and wailed. She was so stupid. So stupid.
She remembered flashbacks of his smile and echoes of his wholehearted laugh. Her world suddenly shattered, the vibrant and happy red turned to dark gray.
She curled herself into a ball and shook. Then she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and saw him.
A bittersweet feeling came to her. She only smiled and said "I like the rain." But he wasn't fooled. Her eyes were red and puffy. Tears, still wet, remained on her face.
Without hesitation, he knelt down and took her face into his hands. She looked at him, wondering what he would say. Would he pity her and pretend to love her? Would he act like he didn't notice the tears, assume it was only rain?
But he did neither of those things. Instead, he did the only thing that could truly reassure her. He smiled and wiped her tears away. He kissed her forehead. He looked her straight in the eye and said "Don't cry. I don't like seeing you break." Finally, he leaned in and placed a kiss on her lips.
The rain became soft and drizzled. "I love you, Howl." She looked down. He raised her chin and took her hand. He placed it against his soaked shirt. She felt something. A heartbeat. She looked up at him, shocked and overjoyed at the same time. "I think my answer to that is obvious." He pulled her up and led her back to the moving castle.
Their castle.
Home.
