Miroku lay back on the grass, his left arm folded behind his head, staring wistfully at his covered right hand. True, his kazaana bothered him, but for the first time in his life he felt hope for the future. Something he had never dared to dream of until he met Sango.
Due to Naraku's deceit Sango had come to their group to destroy Inuyasha. She stayed because she needed them and to help with their mission of collecting jewel shards and defeating Naraku. Basically the same as the rest of the group. However, somewhere along the long traveled roads and endless days together, they had become friends. They had fallen in love.
Sango gave him a different mission, something beyond defeating Naraku and saving his heirs from the curse in his hand. She had sat with him, listening to him explain himself before asking for her hand and she had said yes. He had found someone who loved him and he was surprised to find himself truly loving someone in return.
Miroku thought over all the things to come after Naraku's defeat and the disappearance of his kazaana. He would ask Sango again to be his wife. They would find an acceptable place in Kaede's village for their hut. Kohaku would come to live with them. They would wed and have children. Lots of children. The thought brought a smile to his face. He would grow old with someone. That thought alone was enough to humble him.
But first, Naraku.
What was his plan after that? To live.
