My Christmas Without You
I sat folded up in my living room couch, bowl of cereal in hand. Jake sat beside, chopping away, flipping through the morning cartoons. He's such a kid...
"Oh! Yes! Pokémon!" he shouted, flipping his feet out onto the coffee table to adjust himself. I sighed. This boy..
"Jake, seriously? Pokémon? May I remind you, we're not 8." I shot him a look.
Jake rose an eyebrow in my direction. "And may I remind you, Clare, we're not 30. Pokémon's a classic. Now, shhhhhh so I can watch!"
I chuckled to myself. It's really great to have him as a brother. It's even better knowing we got past our old...uhm...awkward phases. He really brings life into the family.
Suddenly, the phone on my lap began to vibrate. Setting down my bowl of Cheerios, I snatched it up, peering at the ID.
My heart stopped. Eli.
Quickly, I pressed 'Read.'
Clare. Can't stop thinking about last Friday.
My heart jumped straight into my throat, causing me to let out a choke. Oh my gosh...
Jake shot me a glance. "You ok? Who texted?" he asked.
I shook my head. "I-I'm fine. It's just...Ali..."
He smiled. "Great to know you too are working everything out."
And he really was happy about it. He hugged me after I told him we made up and said, "That's great Clare. You two really need each other."
But I didn't tell him that I also made up with another certain person.
Bzzz.
Another text.
Clare, look, I'm sorry if I'm putting you on the spot or anything...but...I really don't know what to do. I know you told me to save everything until I get back but...gosh. I really need to see you.
My heart began to hammer. "Y-Yeah." I replied dumbly. But Jake's attention was long past me, as his eyes glued onto the TV screen. I began to tap violently on my keypad.
Eli, relax. Go and enjoy your break with your family. I'll see you when you get back. XxX
If only he knew how badly I wanted to see him too.
