Remember It Well

"The way of the warrior is something you must in every detail, day and night, on the assumption that you may not live through the day. You may win or lose, depending on the circumstances.

But you can't shame yourself... An accomplished warrior doesn't think whether he is going to win or lose, but dashes into the place of death with single-minded determination.

A ninja must be careful about everything and try not to show any weakness.

Surrendering is something a ninja never does, be it for deceiving the enemy or the village..." she recited again over a drink.

She couldn't believe that shit was still in her head and that she still muttered it every day.

It was about fifteen years ago when she was a young ninja in training that she began memorizing this creed.

"Begin," ordered her father, Shigeo Itsu, a head member of the Itsu family.

His daughter, Yuumei, would begin training at five in the morning and ended at nine with a few breaks in between.

This rigorous training was because of Shigeo's refusal to let the Uchiha Clan reign superior. The two clans were once very close, but one started to gain more power among other things and grew while the Itsu clan was reduced to a little more than 20 families, most not with Itsu as their proud name.

Shigeo's daughter was the only one born before his wife died during the Nine-Tailed Fox's attack on Konoha and as much as a victim as anyone else alive during the attack.

The absence of the Uchiha's during the attack lead Shigeo to find them cowards and wanted to show at least one Itsu could defeat an Uchiha, even if it was a female, his daughter, Yuumei.

People claimed she honed her skills by the age of eight, a rather impressive feat, but it was simply not good enough for the Itsu head member.

"Just not enough," he sighed at her, "Uchiha's son graduated at seven and you just couldn't follow the same? Pathetic."

Yuumei was one year behind the oh-so-great Itachi Uchiha and she wasn't considered a prodigy, she was a man-made prodigy, a fake, a failure.

Those words shook her to the core (though she did not show it) and pushed herself even further.

Further meant straying away from what was important.

If you asked her, that was why she turned out such a screw up.

But she could have just been doomed from the start.
