This was one of those days that made her think of selfish thoughts. Luckily her shift was over. Her shift was from 7:00 pm to 5 am. She quickly entered the lift out of the government hospital's pediatric section before any of her peers asked her help to cover for them. If they had a life, then she had hers to live as well. Not everything was centered on work. There was something worth more than work. It was having some quality time for oneself.
She would normally go to the blood bank to relax and unwind and stare at the bags filled with blood. Weird, yeah she knew that. But not as weird, as those who would visit the morgue just to be 'extra' friendly with dead cut up then sutured bodies. She didn't just stare at the bags of blood. When needed or when she had the time she would donate some of hers. She waved at the nurses at the counter. They waved back while a senior nurse smiled.
"Your favourite spot's ready," a plump nurse smiled cheerily at her. "Enjoy your forty winks before you go home."
"Okay," She smiled at the plump nurse, "Thanks, Aoi-san."
She pushed the door to the room with a few beds where they would extract a litre of your blood to fill the blood bank in the hospital. She turned as she felt a tap on her shoulder to find Nurse Aoi behind her.
"Just to inform you there's a man in there sleeping out of exhaustion." Nurse Aoi said, "His complexion was ashen when he came in all sweaty and desperate. Then he collapsed. It seemed he lacked blood. But he couldn't take the normal A, B, AB, O blood. Dr Asegawa had to pump in your blood into him because he was so weak that he nearly died. Dr. Asegawa was worried that he had to oversee to his wellbeing."
"Really," her eyes showed concern, "then I'll have a look at him." She patted Nurse Aoi's arm.
"But Dr. Fujioka," Nurse Aoi looked at her with curious eyes, "what puzzled us was that the man before he fainted he called out your name."
Haruhi looked at Aoi, "What?"
"I need Haruhi Fujioka's blood in me he said," Aoi nodded, "Yes, it was odd." She peered closer, "and scary at the same time. Do you want me to ask Security Officer Sakano to be with you?"
"Alright," Haruhi frowned slightly while nodding in agreement, "just to be on the safe side."
"Right," Aoi quickly went to the counter to call the security unit.
Haruhi entered into the dimly lit room. Her eyes zeroed in on the man sleeping peacefully. She approached him and stood watching him. He was in his thirties. He didn't look like he belonged to the rustic life but upper crust of society. He had nice features, not that handsome. He had that cool aristocratic ruggedness many women would fall for. His eyes were deep set. Colour of eyes unknown, they were closed. But she knew the colour of his eyes because she knew him.
Slightly furrowed eyebrows and a patrician nose with firm yet sensual lips. She wondered what had happened to Kyouya Ootori to be in such bad shape. He had disappeared for ten years and had lived a solitary life in one of the Balkan countries. When had he come back? Her eyes roved to the ring on his right ring finger. His right hand was resting on his chest, and the gem on the ring was a moonstone. It seemed to glow, and she blinked in surprise thinking that it was odd that it would glow.
But as she moved slightly, the glow dimmed. She stopped then she shook her head to clear her mind. She must be imagining things. The room felt warm. Or was it her that felt warm? She shrugged it off as her being tired until she was plagued with hallucination. She rubbed her forehead furiously chastising herself for working to the bones. She stood still with eyes wide in apprehension. She felt drawn to him and she didn't know the reason for it.
He opened his eyes slowly. His vision was blurry. He squeezed his eyes shut. He felt his eyes smart. He blinked back tears of discomfort. When he sensed that things were normal, he tried opening his eyes very slowly. He was stunned with the vision presented to him. Everything was colourful. He had lived in a world where the scenery was in sepia. He smelled a familiar fragrance. A fragrant for which had aided his survival, he glanced at the shadowy figure at his side.
The fragrant came from this figure. The figure became clearer and he could focus on the figure's face clearly. He could also hear the beating of the figure's heart. It was beating gently. The face of his visitor was feminine and gentle. She looked at him with concern in her eyes. She glanced sideways at the security officer. The security officer stayed put next to the door.
"Senpai," She shifted her gaze back at him. "If you're fine please blink once for yes and blink twice for no if you're not."
He blinked once.
"Good," She smiled at him in relieve. "Follow my finger." She held a finger and moved it left and right.
He did so.
"Good," She nodded, "How many fingers am I showing you?" She held two fingers up in front of him.
He didn't respond. Instead he captured her wrist making her yelp in surprise. "I need you." He began to kiss her palm, wrist, and progressed upwards. "Haruhi…"
"Kyouya-senpai, I'm happy to see you too." She pushed him while gulping. "But this is inappropriate." She began to feel panicky and then looked at the security officer for help. "Officer Sak…," she stopped in mid-sentence. The security officer didn't respond to her predicament. The officer was in a trance. What the heck was wrong with the security officer? What the heck was wrong with Kyouya?
"He's fine. He's under my spell."
She glanced at him. She noticed that his black eyes became darker. She could see herself in them. They were like two black holes which seemed to be absorbing her being into his soulless eyes.
"Something is wrong with me," He said.
"Senpai, what is wrong with you?"
"I'm not myself anymore." He looked at her with wretched eyes.
"You're not making any sense." She furrowed her eyebrows in bafflement.
"I can't live without your blood." He stared at her with such despair in them that fear gripped her heart.
"Wh-what?" She was faced with a dilemma. What had happened to him? She put her hand into her pocket, gripping a pen. If he made a wrong move, she would have no choice but to injure him.
He informed her. "I heal instantly so it's pointless to wound me."
She didn't speak out her thoughts yet he knew her thoughts. "Are you a mind reader?" She blurted in exasperation.
"I'm more than that," He was no longer laying on the bed nor was he seated on the bed. He was standing behind her.
She spun around in terror. But he held her from facing him. He warned her, "I'm not normal anymore."
"What happened to you, Kyouya?" She grabbed his shoulders and shook him. "What did you do?"
"I didn't do anything, yet something got to me during my research in the Balkans. I had a fatal accident and somehow didn't die. I was miraculously saved or so I had thought. What a complete idiot I was."
"What?" She gripped his arm nervously.
"I'm a vampire," He stared at her.
"Vamp… vampire," She shook her head in disbelieve.
"Believe it," He had exposed his sharp and a little long canines at her.
She blanched at the sight and at the sudden change of his eye colour. They were red as blood. She backed away from him in fear, and sadness.
"Don't turn away from me," He pleaded, "I'm here to see you before I …" He stopped to look at the rising sun.
"What're you going to do?" She looked at him than out of the window at the approaching dawn. "No," She grabbed his hand, "You're a doctor too. There's got to be a way."
"There's no other way. There's no cure for this disease." He looked at her with sorrow, "If I live on, I'll need to feed on your blood. I can only consume the blood of my loved one. I can't make you into a vampire because then I can't feed on you. I can't feed on the blood of an undead. It's like consuming poison. Above all else, I don't want you to suffer the same fate as me. I came here to see you for the last time."
She blinked at him. Did she hear him wrong? He loved her but…
"I loved you then, I love you now and I will love you forever." He took off the ring with the moonstone on, took her hand and slipped it on her ring finger. He lowered his head with the intent of kissing her lips but he caught himself. "No, I won't leave the mark of the damned on you." Then with a hint of mist he disappeared from her eyes.
"Kyouya," She gasped and cried aloud. "Kyouya…"
"Shhh," a soft cooing calmed her down, "I'm here."
She felt a warm hand on hers. She opened her eyes, blinked awkwardly and looked at the person seated next to her. Her cheeks reddened at the looks she was receiving from the other tourists in the bus. They were in one of the Balkan states for their honeymoon. She bowed her head sheepishly at the tourists from her country. Kyouya bowed as well but he had a hint of a smile etching his lips as he looked at his wife who was rubbing her temple in embarrassment.
"Quite a nightmare you had there, my dear." He said in amusement. "I don't drink vine but I dine vell…"
God! Why her?! She hid her face in her hands. He chuckled and kissed the top of her head, uttering, "I loved you then, I love you now and I will love you forever."
THE END
A/N: This is another weird Kyouya/Haruhi one-shot fic from me after a long while. I'm currently not that well so I hope you could wait for a little while longer for updates on Lord Haru and Tenshi for Akuma. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this fic as much as I've enjoyed writing it. Cheerio!
