ENJOY! and please review :)

I'm waking up at the start of the end of the world

but it's feeling just like every other morning before.

Now I wonder what my life is gonna mean if it's gone?

I gathered up the things I had brought, putting them into my small knapsack and setting it in the corner of the cave; I wouldn't need them once I was caught. Shay was chattering away next to me, about how I would get to meet her friends and she would finally get to meet Peris. Finally I couldn't take it anymore.

"Shay," I said, trying to keep the anger and anguish out of my voice. I couldn't turn to look at her. "Please, just be quiet. Let me be; this is hard enough as it is. Once I'm-" I had to stop and collect myself. "Once I'm pretty, we can talk all the time. Right now, just let me concentrate."

I didn't look at Shay, but I could imagine her beautiful Pretty face falling into despair as I spoke.

The cars are moving like a half a mile an hour and I

started staring at the passengers waving goodbye

Can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time?

I took one last look at the faces around me, unsure if I'd ever get to see them again: Maddie, with her sad eyes on my face; Croy, looking at the ground as he waited for Shay and I; but no David.

I pictured David in my mind, not as he was when he stormed off, but with a smile on his face.

As Shay, Croy, and I left, I imagined that I could see him standing behind the waterfall with Maddie, waving goodbye.

I had to believe he would come rescue me from New-Pretty Town, and the cure Maddie had come up with would work. Otherwise… I stopped thinking.

"Tally?" Croy finally looked up at me from his hoverboard. "What did they say to make you come?"

"They weren't going to let me get the surgery if I didn't 'try my best to find her,'" I said, watching as Croy's eyes darkened a little at my words, the realization that I had disappointed him washing over me. My eyes started to water as I realized just how much I had disappointed all of them.

"Well, thanks for rescuing me anyways. I hope this all works out... at least you're getting what you wanted," he said, and I half-smiled at him grimly.

"I had to get you out of there… and trust me, I don't want this anymore than you do."

But I believe the world is burning to the ground

Oh well, I guess we're gonna find out

Let's see how far we've come

Let's see how far we've come

We finally got to the edge of the city I used to call home, and Croy started to turn away, then stopped.

"Hey, Tally," he called over his shoulder. "I'll see you soon. Promise."

Well I believe the world is coming to an end

Oh well, I guess we're gonna pretend

Let's see how far we've come

Let's see how far we've come

Shay had been unusually quiet for the ride down the mountain to New-Pretty Town. I knew she didn't understand why I was so upset, but I knew the real Shay was in there somewhere, behind all the lesions and surgery, because she kept glancing at me worriedly.

As we walked through one of the pleasure gardens in New-Pretty Town, a few hovercars passed over us, and every time their shadow fell over us, I flinched. By the fourth car we saw, I couldn't even look up.

We could turn to the clock

but I know really know

and I can't remember caring for an hour or so

Started crying and I couldn't stop myself

I started running but there's nowhere to run to

Shay reached out and took my hand, staying quiet. What she said next gave me the hope I needed.

"Tally… I don't know why you're so scared, but you have to know that I'm here for you. I won't let them hurt you or anything brain-missing like that. You'll be pretty soon, and everything will be bubbly again," she said, giving my now shaking hand a squeeze.

Even in the dark, I could see the distant lights of the towers reflecting off Shay's eyes, making them glow softly and capturing my attention.

Just as I was about to say something, a hovercar stopped near us and I clammed up, nervous again even with Shay's hand enveloping mine.

I sat down on the street

took a look at myself

said 'Where you going, man, you know the world is headed to hell?'

say your goodbyes

if you've got someone you can say goodbye to

"What are you two-oh, sorry Miss." The Middle-Pretty shined his flashlight at us, but he saw Shay's face first. Then he saw me, and his eyes traveled down to where Shay and I's hands were interwined, and his face became clouded with confusion. Shay squeezed my hand one more time, then let go. That was my cue.

"I'm Tally Youngblook, and I've come to give myself up. Make me pretty."

I believe the world is burning to the ground

Oh well, I guess we're gonna find out

Let's see how far we've come

Let's see how far we've come

Well I believe it all is coming to an end

Oh well, I guess we're gonna pretend

Let's see how far we've come

Let's see how far we've come

I was on the table, about to go under, and I could see all the Middle-Pretty surgeons taking one last look at their paperwork before they started. I shut my eyes tightly, trying to block out the sound of their quiet voices with a phrase I repeated over and over in my head.

I love you, David. Please, please, please…

don't let me forget.

It's gone, gone, baby it's all gone.

There's no one on the corner

and there's no one at home.

Well it was cool, cool, it was just all cool.

Now it's over for me and it's over for you…
