She missed things. She missed how things used to be, when they would play endless pranks in the office and smile at each other with those special smiles that were reserved for only them. She missed how he would dig into the jellybean jar and pick through until he found the yellow ones. She always thought it was weird that his favorite flavor of the jellybeans was lemon. Most people despised that flavor, including her. Maybe that's why he ate them, to get rid of them so she wouldn't accidentally get them and get that icky look on her face.
That's not true. He just liked the yellow ones.
She glanced at Ryan solemnly and hated how things were. She hated that she missed things, and that Ryan sat in the same chair that Jim had once occupied. She looked at the area of the desk that was, coincidentally, empty on Ryan's desk. It had been where she had leaned while she kissed him back. She never referred to it as "when he kissed her" because it wasn't like it was his fault. It was hers.
She had kissed him back.
She missed how things were. She missed him.
He had been in a slump for the first week or so. Then he realized that Karen was pretty cool. She was kind of like Pam, because she also liked to joke around and not take work so seriously. She was beautiful, too. And nice, despite the fact that she had shot him multiple times in the video game that was played by the entire office. What was it called again?
He didn't remember.
He didn't really care, though. His mind was on other things. His mind was on her.
He turned around and flashed a smile quickly.
He was still kind of disappointed about Pam, but he made it a plan to get over her quickly. And it seemed to be working.
He missed Pam, though. He missed her smile and laugh and how he would purposely eat the yellow jellybeans, which he hated, just so she wouldn't get that icky look on her face when she accidentally chose a yellow one.
But he liked Karen. She was great. She was good for him. He needed to get over Pam.
He missed how things were. He missed her.
He turned around.
"You want to go get a drink later?"
She smiled.
