1. The Shoot
Ann walked out of the trailer. She wore a short blue dress. Two other girls also walked out of trailers. They wore red and yellow dresses.
The red-dressed girl recognized Ann. "Ann, honey!," she said.
She looked at her. "Dorothy!"
The girls hugged.
"So, you're in this commercial, too.," said Ann.
"Yeah. $1000 just to wade in a fountain, that's a pretty good deal!"
"Yes, it is!"
"Oh, this is Janet Dawson. Janet, this is Ann Marie, one of my dearest friends."
"Pleased to meet you," said Janet. She and Ann shook hands.
"Likewise," said Ann.
The director came over. "Hi, girls. We're ready for you. Get in the fountain."
They walked to the side of the fountain, slipped their shoes off, and got in the water.
"It's cold!," said Ann.
"Yes!," agreed Dorothy. "But don't forget the money we're getting is hot!"
She giggled. "True!"
"All right, ladies, form a straight line," said the director through a megaphone. "Good. Now put your arms around each other. . . Nice. Now, in a moment, we'll be playing the music in the commercial. I'd like the three of you to kick your legs, like you're Rockettes. Start with your left feet."
A few seconds later, a tape of the music started playing. The girls began kicking their legs to the music beat. At first, they were disorganized, but with the director's help, they gradually kicked in unison.
"Excellent! Roll the camera."
They began filming.
Unfortunately, after only about a minute, disaster struck: Ann stepped on a pebble in the water, lost her balance, and fell. And since the other two had their arms around her, they also fell!
"Cut!," said the director.
"Are you all right, honey?," said Dorothy.
"Yeah, I guess so-just wet!"
The three of them got out of the water. And sat down and rubbed her foot. The director walked over to her.
"You've ruined the dresses!," he shouted. "Now, it will take at least an hour to have you all changed and dried off!"
"I'm sorry!," said poor Ann. "I slipped on a sharp pebble in the fountain."
"A likely story!"
"Wait a minute, I've got an idea," said the producer.
He walked over and talked with the director. The girls waited patiently. A minute later, the director walked over to Ann. He was all smiles.
"Miss Marie, you are a genius!"
"I am?"
He picked up his megaphone. "OK, ladies, get back in the fountain. . . Now, since you're already wet, I want you to play in the water. Pretend you're kids, and this is the hottest day of the year."
They didn't have to be told twice. They splashed each other, stood among the water jets, even lied down in the water. Throughout, they giggled, like little girls. The cameramen filmed them for around ten minutes.
"Cut. That's great! OK, girls, I want you to form a line, like you did earlier. . .Good, now kick your hells up to the music, like you were doing before. Cue the music, again."
The music began again, and they kicked their legs, like they did earlier. This time, there were no mishaps.
"Cut. It's a wrap! Thanks, ladies."
They got out of the fountain. The director walked over to Ann.
"Miss Marie, I'm sorry I yelled at you, earlier."
"That's OK."
He walked away. She walked over to Dorothy.
"Ill bet you don't often swim with your clothes on!"
She laughed. "Nope! The advantage is these aren't our own clothes."
"True!"
