Wow, it's so weird to be writing something other than Pokemon!
Anyways, I don't own the game in any way, but it is super fun, and if you tend to fangirl like me, this game is definitely for you (It's available on most app stores for free as far as I know)! It's called Midnight Cinderella Ikémen Royal Romances, and it's really awesome and makes me want to puke with fangirl joy.
So this whole thing is my own take on the story, and I totally based the main character off of myself. You know, me times like thirteen.
Also, I'm trying out this new thing with the chapter titles... Every chapter title is a line from the story. Just thought I'd say that, try something new. Since I'm usually so bad at titles and all.
Thanks for checking out my newest story, please review on it!
Chapter 1: There's Something I Need To Do
August 19th
"Come on, man! Please-" The resounding groan of the closing palace gates concluded in a decisive thud. "Crap." Commoners are never granted entry to the palace, today being the sole exception- though it appears I'm immune to such luck. I sighed, fist tightening around the invitation as I gazed at the locked gates. At the same time with my free hand, I ran my fingers deeply through my thick, blonde hair, pushing it backwards. Then I muttered quietly to myself. "What to do..."
Princess elect of Wysteria. She's chosen from among the entirety of the female population- regardless of social status. Such has been tradition in the kingdom when there is no heir to take the place of the King and Queen.
And sure enough, an invitation to take part in those select proceedings, found its way to me, a home tutor for only a few young children.
Ha, the idea of me becoming princess. Really, though, how stupid could these people be? I smiled lightly to myself, imagining the faces of the nobles of the region had I become princess. Mostly full of disgust, hatred, and unbelievability. Hilarious. Not that any of that matters anyways- I would never be chosen for the role, I wouldn't accept it had the impossible happen, and I didn't come here hoping to be princess anyways.
My reason for coming to the palace was much simpler. I've made it this far, I can't turn back now. There has to be some other way in. Besides, I don't break my promises.
A streak of motion caught my eye as I scanned the palace walls for an entrance. A rat maybe? I watched the rodent dart up the vines. So I guess this place must not be quite as great as it's said to be if there are rats running about... The creature disappeared over the wall, and I began to wonder. Will it hold? I stepped forward, tugging on one of the vines out of curiosity, and was surprised by it's resistance. I gave my signature determined, unstoppable, can-do attitude smile.
My eyes were fixed on the goal above. I gave the fine one last tug, grasping it tightly. Ava White doesn't allow anything to stop her! I thought proudly, beginning to pull myself upwards-
"Please tell me this isn't what it looks like." Spectacular. I placed my foot firmly back on the ground, sighing and hanging my head down low. Oh well, I suppose it's about time to turn that legendary charm of mine all the way up.
I spun around, the skirt of my simple brown and white dress twirling around my legs. I had my best sexy smile on. I found myself face to face with a young man fitted in armor from head to toe. He had messy black hair, the bangs hanging slightly over his red eyes. The way his bangs caught the light made them appear nearly purple. From the looks of his outfit he was a very highly decorated knight. And not bad on the eyes either...
"This is the part where you explain yourself." My smile grew into more of a smirk.
"Nothing to explain here sir, except for why you still haven't introduced yourself." My well put together, on the fly act, did not seem to be fooling this man in particular. His cold glare was... unnerving. I wouldn't allow the cold sweat beginning to creep down my back to slow me down though.
"Oh really? Then you trying to monkey up that wall is nothing, I take it." An eyebrow was already being raised on the knight's face. I chuckled nervously, shrugging, and running my fingers through my hair. I didn't bother lying. I had to maintain at least some dignity. "Nothing to say for yourself then young lady?"
"Nothing at all, fair knight." I was slightly bemused when a small, lopsided smile flickered across the man's face, but he quickly composed himself.
"Let's have your name."
"Ava." The young knight's brow furrowed in tandem with his growing suspicion.
"Ava, is it? Are you lying?" I smirked again, for a split second, before my face faded back to a well guarded emotionless mask.
"You wouldn't know if I was. Which, for your information, I'm not." I crossed my arms, returning the knight's constant glare with one of my own. There's no opening the palace gates now, according to the time on the invitation, at least. There must be a way I can convince him to let me in... Charming him obviously wasn't going to work. Outsmarting him I doubted would do any better. Besides, when its one's wit against another's sharp and pointy weapon, its usually better to go the safer route.
As I took the full brunt of the knight's gaze, I recalled my dear pupil's face, and the promise I had set out to uphold.
"Can I ask you a favor, Miss?" I had been reading to the young girl a picture book, but closed it upon her asking me. She continued, taking the book from my hands and opening it to a particular page, pointing. "See these flowers? They say they grow in the palace courtyard. Find one for me- pretty please?"
I stared at the small, but quite pretty white flowers.
"Whatever for Liliana?" I was curious. The young girl came from a poor family, and was frail herself, and never asked for anything.
"Cause' they grant wishes! That's how I'm gonna make Mommy better again. Then Daddy can come home, and we can all go berry hunting again! Just like we used to." And with that, my student wrapped her tiny arms around the book, smiling.
"'Just like we used to', huh."
"Hey!" I opened my emerald eyes, quite irritated that the knight before me had interrupted that particularly fond memory. "You done daydreaming already?" I scowled, leaving the knight's question unanswered.
I know it's just a fairytale, but... I really do hope those flowers exist, for Liliana's sake. As you can see, I absolutely could not refuse such an innocent request. Which was why I had dug through my trash for two hours searching for the invitation I had previously discarded. Okay, get it together Ava. I already blew my first, ah, first few chances. This one is undoubtedly my last.
"Alright, might as well cut to the chase..." I mumbled, but the knight apparently heard me, and yet again raised his eyebrow at me. I must be a huge joke to this guy at this point. Once more, I sighed and ran my fingers through my thick hair, pushing it back out of my eyes. "Sir Knight, might I trouble you for admission to the palace?"
"Are you crazy?! I don't even know what you're doing here in the first place!" I lied earlier. There was no possible way that I would only sigh and screw with my hair once more. I sighed... again. Didn't push my hair back this time though!
"There's... there's something I need to do."
"Like what?" Eyes narrowed in a scrutinizing stare, it felt as though the knight was looking through the depths of my soul. Hopefully he wouldn't find anything too incriminating. Finally, his eyes widened ever so slightly, as if he'd just realized something. "Ah, so you're a special guest." Now it was my turn to raise an eyebrow.
"Special?" Oh, right. Duh. He shot a look of disdain at the invitation letter clutched in my hand. Then, after letting a dry laugh escape his nose, he departed the ground with a spry hop. What's he doing? Bounding off a statue, the young knight briskly made his way up the palace wall.
"You almost had me there, for a second. You should've just told me you came for a shot at being princess." The knight looked down upon me from the wall above us, his lips curled into a contemptuous smile. I frowned. I didn't like being looked down upon like that. Ironic how that was literally happening right now.
I considered telling the man that I would have rather impaled myself on a spear like a shish kabob then roasted myself before I willingly became the princess. That though, might put a slight dent in the plan I had just formulated.
"Too bad though. First rule of becoming princess; arrive on time." He smiled slyly down at me, resting his chin in his hands on top of the wall. I would have very much liked to grab his dangling feet and pull the man off the wall, or at least let a few cusses fly, but I held back.
"I suppose you do have a point there." I looked to the cobblestone pathway below, willing my imagination not to wander towards the idea of a broken hearted eight year old in my presence.
"But if you really did come here for other business, I might be willing to listen." Maybe I still have a chance. I raised my eyes to meet the knight's stern gaze. "Well?" Returning the knight's glare, I spoke without hesitation.
"I wasn't lying that time, either. I came here to find something and I won't leave without it." My girlish charms must have finally struck a chord, as all hints of the knight's frosty glower seemed to melt away.
"That so?" With a hearty laugh, the nameless knight extended a hand towards me. I stared at it skeptically. "Grab on."
"You're just going to pull me up?"
"Uh huh."
"Just like that?"
"Yup. How else did you plan on getting in?" I narrowed my eyes at first, mulling over my options. Finally, I shrugged, and looked up to the knight with a sly smile of my own.
"Thank you, Sir Knight, I am forever in your debt." I curtseyed rather lowly, sarcastically. The knight shook his head and rolled his eyes, but smiled nonetheless.
"Just take my hand already." I laughed, and placed by hand in his larger, rougher one. I was instantly whisked upwards. What I did not expect was to be cradled in the knight's arms.
"Hey now-"
"Quiet, unless you want to bite your tongue off." The nameless knight carried me the rest of the way up the wall. The view was picturesque from up there, but before I had the chance to enjoy it, we were back on solid ground. I was carefully set back onto the ground.
"Whew," I fixed my wild locks with another quick run through of my hand. "Thanks again."
"Don't mention it. Now do what you have to. No funny stuff though- I'd rather not resort to violence. Get my POINT?" My eyes glanced to where he was pointing- his sword. Rolling my eyes, I pretended it was as funny as he thought it was.
"Haha, of course, your sword!" Before I had the chance to say anything more, the knight disappeared around the side of the castle with a swish of his crimson cape.
"Sir Alyn! Where in Wysteria have you been?"
"Please- I'm late, not dead. Though that might change if you snitch to Giles."
"W-wait just a moment, Captain!" Alyn, huh. You really saved me back there. Thank you. A sigh escaped my lips as I looked across the vast palace grounds. Well, I'm in. Now I've got to find the inner courtyard. Wherever the hell that is...
I stared annoyingly at the enormous palace before me.
"Great. Just wonderfully great."
