Grateful

Luna saw him first. He had grown this school year and his baby fat had started to melt away. She came over and tapped him on the shoulder, watching the brunette start before he spun around, his surprise soon ebbing away.

"Hullo, Luna," Neville greeted her in a quiet voice. They were standing outside with the other guests at Dumbledore's funeral.

Luna turned her ethereal gaze on him. "Hello, Neville," she replied, indicating two available chairs close by.

Neville nodded and followed her over, catching Seamus' gaze before turning to the front.

The funeral proceeded with out incident and soon the pair was walking back to the castle. Stopping, Neville looked up at the castle with a sinking feeling. A few paces away, Luna turned towards him. They stood like that a moment before she broke the silence. "I have something to give you." She walked over to him, and slipped off her necklace. Carefully she cut the string in half before tying everything up again. She slid one of the butterbeer necklaces over his neck.

Neville watched her, but before he could ask, she smiled her other-worldly smile. "You never found me 'loony.'" Then she stepped back. Throughout the school year, he had always seemed to have time for her. Then she waved, having spotted her father amonst the remaining guests. "Goodbye, Neville."

Neville returned the wave in kind before looking down at the bottle cap necklace around his neck.
