I honestly have no idea where this came from...it was a plot bunny born of a random thought.
Disclaimer: Arlua and Tania are mine but no one else.
"Shinra...remind me why I'm the one who has to do this again?" Arlua complained.
"Because Tania would just shoot him, Shizuo would beat him up, Celty would be hounded by the men in there, and I don't want to!"
The technician glared at the doctor.
"So call Kadota."
"I don't want to bother him!"
"You bothered me!"
"But you're the one I'm sure he won't snap at for interrupting his work!"
"I swear Shinra sometimes I wonder why I don't pretend I don't know you." Still, Arlua rolled her eyes and made her way into the bar. Why Izaya was conducting his observations or meetings or whatever in a bar in Ilebukuro, she didn't know. The technician made her way over to the counter, where Izaya sat, talking to a man Arlua didn't recognize. Deciding to wait until he finished his conversation, she took the empty stool on the informant's other side.
"Can I get you a drink?" an unfamiliar voice asked. Arlua looked up and found, not the bartender, but one of the men who had been sitting at a table across the room.
"No thank you. I'm waiting on someone," she said firmly. The man raised an eyebrow.
"Surely I can buy you a drink while you wait," he pressed. Arlua shook her head.
"No, thank you," she repeated politely.
"Come on, just one-"
"Lu-chan, did you come to get me?~ that's so cute!~" Izaya exclaimed, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. He propped his chin on her shoulder and gave the other man a cold stare. When the man gulped and took a step back, the information broker smirked.
"Shinra wouldn't shut up until I agreed to fetch you," she explained, rolling her eyes but leaning back against him anyway.
"Ah~ well my business is done now~"
"Good. This guy was starting to get annoying."
"Aw, not as annoying as me, I hope!~" Izaya protested. Arlua shook her head.
"No one will ever be as annoying as you, Izaya," she assured him, deliberately using his full name to indirectly inform the man who wanted to buy her a drink just who he was dealing with.
The man paled. Izaya chuckled and kissed her cheek, letting her know that he understood what she did. The technician grinned.
"Can we go now?"
"Of course, Lu-chan.~"
