Chapter One
Normal POV
This was it, he was going to ask her out. He had been wanting to do this for the longest now, but nerves had been stopping Oliver in his tracks. Skylar was an easy girl to talk to, the two along with Oliver's best friend Kaz have been friends since they met a year ago, but asking her out on a date was a whole other thing. Would she say yes? Would she say no? Would she laugh in his face or punch him in it? She had a knack for doing the opposite of what one would expect. This left Oliver unsure of what the response would be, but he was tired of watching her from a distance at his lunch table, kind of like he was doing now.
"That's crazy, if someone was chasing me with a chainsaw I wouldn't run I'd beat him down. Scary movies are so funny," he overheard her telling a group of kids.
Oliver smiled, thinking back to the Friday movie night the three of them had last week. The choice of movie was either Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Super 8, and Skylar was not looking forward to watching people run from some alien thing. So it was people running from a chainsaw wielding freak instead, which the girl ended up finding absolutely hysterical and ridiculous, so much so that she was still talking about it. But that was okay, Oliver could listen to Skylar talk for hours on end. It was super cheesy yes but it was true. The fourteen year-old was head over hills in love with Skylar Storm. Ha, who would've thought his first actual love would be a super hero from another planet.
"Oliver, why are you creepily staring at Skylar again?" Kaz asked, placing his tray of food down next to Oliver's. He had gotten himself a tray of fries smothered in melted cheese and a bottle of coca cola from the vending machine. Nothing like finishing up a long week of school with good food.
Oliver waved Kaz off and continued to gaze at Skylar, who was getting her lunch now. "I'm gonna ask Skylar out," he simply replied, a goof smile plastered on his face. His eyes darted towards Kaz who had burst into laughter at what Oliver just told him. "What?"
Kaz coughed, choking on his food but still laughing. "Nothing, nothing." He was lying right through his teeth and Oliver was sure of why. Oliver had been telling Kaz almost everything when it came to his crush on Skylar. It was pretty obvious anyways that he was lovestruck but Kaz was the only one he'd talk to about it. Kaz can be a bit on the dumb side especially when it came to girls, but who better to talk to than his best friend?
"Don't lie, you think I'm gonna punk out again don't you?" Oliver asked. He helped himself to some of Kaz's cheese fries and threw his head back as his taste buds did cartwheels. He himself had a plate of food, but it was just dry tasting mashed potatoes and chicken that didn't look done. He would've gotten his own snacks but his wallet was sitting on his nightstand wondering how he could forget to grab it. Thank goodness for Kaz who never forgets to have cash on him.
"Because you always do. I don't get why, Skylar's cool and you're a great guy."
"Oh yea, then why haven't any girls asked me out since our seventh grade dance. Heck, Melissa Harris barely paid attention to me and she was my date."
Kaz shrugged. "No offense but you act pretty goofy when girls approach you. I mean I haven't had the best of luck with girls but at least I don't forget my name."
Oliver glared and threw a fry at Kaz. He smirked when it stuck to his cheek due to the cheese. "It was one time, and her ex-boyfriend was standing right near her I got nervous... not this time though!" Oliver cleared his throat and checked his face for anything on it. Skylar was making her way over now with the biggest, cutest if he must add, smile on her face. That's when the nauseous feeling came in his stomach. It definitely wasn't from the food, but from the nerves he felt instead. He felt like he was going to burst, with words or vomit he wasn't sure.
"Hi Callie," Skylar said, waving to the girl named Callie. She placed her tray down and sat across from her two best and only guy friends. "Hey guys, ooh Kaz what is that?"
Kaz looked down at his cheese fries and back at Skylar. "..Cheese fries," he snickered. Sometimes he wondered if Skylar's mind was somewhere back on her planet while her body was right here on earth. Just last week he went into a long explanation of why it was called mystery meat and not just plain old meatloaf.
"Oh, cool can I have some?" She asked. She had a healthy tray of salad and croutons but her lip was sticking out like she was dissatisfied with it. "I don't know why I went to the salad line, I get enough of this at Mighty Med. I want something really good and healthy like cheese fries."
Oliver smiled as he watched Skylar slurp down three cheese covered fries, smiling and giggling like nobody's business. There was something about Skylar today that was different from all the other days. She seemed radiant, like the world was in the palm of her hands. Yup, this definitely was a good time to bring up a date. "So uh, Connie," he began, calling her by the alias he and Kaz gave her, "Um I was thinking I know we always do movie night today but-"
"Mmm," the girl mumbled, eyes bucked and snapping her fingers. She seemed real jumpy and excited now. "Oliver thanks for bringing that up. I was thinking instead of going to your house and watching a movie we could go to the theater instead. I want to see The Duff so bad, I need to know which one of you is my duff and I think the movie will help."
On TV shows going to the movies was the perfect first date for a guy. While the lights are down he can make his move, comforting his potential girlfriend when she was scared. Holding her close and taking the darkness as an opportunity to hold hands and other mushy stuff Oliver had seen on his sister's favorite CW shows. But right now it was a terrible idea and Oliver had to admit it. He liked it better when the three of them and sometimes Gus or Jordan went to his house. Oliver would place five choices of movies on the living room coffee table, set down blankets and pillows on the floor and couch, and have a selection of junk (from popcorn to twizzlers) set out in arms reach. Oliver's couch could only fit three people, so Jordan would take a spot next to Kaz who was in the middle and Gus on the left as far away from Jordan as possible. That would leave Oliver and Skylar smack dab on the floor.
The perfect spot. Oliver looked up from his food and to Skylar who was waiting anxiously for a reply. Her dark brown eyes went from Oliver to Kaz who was laughing at her comment, and then back. She looked beautiful with her perfectly curled dark brown hair falling over her face. Like a goddess.
"Well?" she asked, getting a little confused and annoyed.
Kaz rolled his eyes and stuck a forkful of fries in his mouth. "Sure, sounds like a date to me," he said, leaning back a little when Oliver began to choke on his food.
"Date?" he asked.
"Date?" Skylar repeated, eyebrows knit together.
"Yeah, the three of us and Jordan. Gus is sick so." Kaz shrugged. He could feel Oliver's eyes staring him down but he ignored it. He knew what Kaz was doing but Kaz couldn't help it, he was no superhero but it was in him to help his friends when they needed it. Granted it made for good reading in Oliver's feelings journal but after a while something good has to come from this Skylar/Oliver situation.
"Uh, okay sure." Skylar smiled though still a little confused. She began eating some more of Kaz's food while he went on and on about how hot Stephanie was looking today. What he was saying was going in one ear and out the other though because she kept thinking back to what he said a few minutes ago. They never referred to their movie nights as dates and Skylar preferred it that way. Kaz and Oliver were cool, and cute she'd admit, but they were nothing more and nothing less. She wouldn't be going on any dates with them any time soon! Besides, she sort of kind of had her eyes on someone else.
There he was, sitting on the table across the room, a group of kids surrounding him. He tossed the football he was holding up and down, catching it like a boss. Everything about the guy was perfect; his baby blue eyes, muscle tone of his arms, pearly white teeth, even his jawline reminded Skylar of Orlando Bloom or Johnny Depp. Hey she didn't know what cheese fries were but she sure as heck knew who those hunks were. Austin Murray was her crush's name, high school senior and school quarterback. Her crush on him was cliche considering most girls adored him too, but Skylar didn't care because she was head over hills in love.
"Skylar... Skylar," she heard someone saying. She looked up to see both Oliver and Kaz looking at her as if she had three heads.
"Yeah, oh um sorry spaced out. What were you saying Oliver?"
Oliver hesitated before asking her if she had her notes from French class. She nodded and gave them to him. Oliver followed her eyes as they slowly went right back to Austin Murray. He was a senior and a jerk, but for some reason that's what girls loved about him. If that was his competition then he was doomed from the start.
Later on that day Oliver and Kaz were told they had the day off from Mighty Med. According to their boss Horace Diaz he had everything under control, it was a slow patient day so he didn't need them.
"Fine by me," Oliver said as he and Kaz walked up the street of his neighborhood. He and Kaz only lived four blocks away from each other but they always ended up on Oliver's street first. It was already five o'clock and getting later than that. The Duff was starting at 7:30 and Skylar said she would sprint to the theater. Oliver on the other hand figured he'd take his precious time considering he didn't want to go. It was evident in the tone of his voice and it made Kaz cringe.
"What's up with you, you have a date with Skylar tonight why are you bummed?" he asked, frustrated.
Oliver stopped and soon he and Kaz were standing in front of each other, arms folded. "It's not even a real date, I didn't get to ask her you just stupidly referred to it as a date. And did you see her face when she heard you? She looked disgusted."
"That wasn't disgust that was shock and excitement...well, we'll say it was. Look, I know you're worried but this is your opportunity. Grab it and hold onto it like it means your life. You okay from here?" Kaz asked. "I got to get home before I miss out on all the crab legs. You should see Kaitlyn, she's like a monster when it comes to those things I barely have a chance to get any for myself."
Oliver nodded, a weak smile appearing on his face. He still wasn't convinced but he wanted Kaz off his back. This was going to be a long night after all. "I'm good, see you in two hours," he said. His voice was leaking with worry and sorrow and Kaz just wanted to smack him upside the head.
Skylar didn't know it but she opened the door for Oliver with this whole movies thing, and Kaz gave him a shove through that door by putting the idea of a date in the girl's head. Still his best friend wasn't satisfied. Other people would give up, say screw it I'm done trying to help. But Oliver was like a brother to Kaz-they'd been friends since fifth grade when Oliver laughed at milk coming out of Kaz's nose instead of tattling like the other kids-no way was Kaz going to sit back and just let his friend suffer inside. Oliver did a lot of that unbeknownst to some people; his parents divorcing really put him through a lot, and his mother not even bothering to fight for him was like that extra kick to the stomach.
"Nope..no way, I have to do something about this Skylar thing." And so that was Kaz's plan. Oliver needed some happiness in his life that didn't just involve The Domain or Mighty Med or even Kaz himself, Oliver needed Skylar.
A/N okay so I know that wasn't long and I hope no one was OOC, but I liked it :) I'm trying to elaborate in my stories now, go into more detail about how a person is feeling and what not. I read a lot of BTR fanfiction and the writers do that a lot, I'm trying to get inspiration so my stories can be good :). Just wanted to wet your throats for what's to come, tell me what you think PLEASE don't hesitate I appreciate reviews but rarely if at all get them :\ p.s. can you believe Mighty Med season 2 is pretty much wrapped up, seems like yesterday Skylar had her powers :') love the show 3
much love 😘
