Finally, It was over.

Two figures stood on a hill above the destruction. He slowly walked over to the last member of his brother's pack. The closer he got, the stronger the scent of sadness became. Tears rolled down her blood-stained cheeks as she looked down to the bodies of her second family. They didn't deserve to die like this.

Nobody deserved to die at the hands of Naraku.

She fell to her knees, sobbing loudly as she caught a glimpse of bright red in the edge of the clearing. Next to it, a patch of pink.

"Shippo, Rin… My children, I'm so sorry."

She whispered as she fell to all fours, her sobs getting louder as she cried for not only her son, but his daughter.

A clawed hand came to rest on her back, rubbing soothing circles to try to calm the young miko. He knelt next to her, eyes alight with despair as he watched her. She turned to look at him.

"S-sesshomaru..." Her voice trembled, her empty eyes resting on his red-rimmed ones, as his beast struggled to get free. He stared at her, and her him until his eyes fully bled red. She stayed there, completely still. He suddenly disappeared only to reappear standing on the other side of her. He swooped down and picked her up, holding her against his chest as he purred softly.

Kagome was shocked but soon recovered as she cried once more, burying her face into his clothed chest.

He looked down at her sadly. She didn't deserve to feel the pain she felt today, but she was not the only one. She lost her all of her friends – plus her adopted son.

Out of a group that was once six deep, she was the only one that remained.

This made him beyond angry. How could a mere hanyou take out some of the most powerful people alive? How could he let him destroy his miko's pack? How could he let him..

He sunk to one knee, Kagome still in his arms as tears began to leak from his red eyes.

… How could he let him kill his child?

He mourned for his daughter, Kagome's son… but most importantly for the broken soul he held in his arms. The soul that will never fully heal… For the woman that will never be the same.

He looked down at her through watery eyes before turning his eyes up to the crescent moon looming above.

His beast took full control at that moment, and howled into the night.
