It was early afternoon, and Matthew Williams was busy walking down the streets of his country's capital, Ottawa. He smelled the fresh air, completely content with everyone around him. They were all in a marvelous mood, seeing at how it was Canada Day. People were walking around, their face painted with their national flags. Children were running around, maple leafs in their hands, screaming and yelling with laughter. Matthew couldn't help and smile at the sight. It helped seeing his people in such a joyous occasion. He helped him ease through the pain of loneliness and sadness. He was used to spending this day alone and forgotten. It was just another usual day in his life; Even if it was his birthday.
After a few more hours of wandering around, Matthew made his way back to his humble abode. He was currently only wearing a plain grey t-shirt with some blue jeans. He was used to his nation's cold state, and snowy appearance. Taking out his keys, he unlocked the front door, stepping inside. Quickly closing it, he took off his shoes, kicking them to the side. Scratching the back of his head, he realized he had never turned off the lights in his home. Thinking the worst, he quickly flipped the switch; he was attacked by the sudden yells of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Startled, he blinked a few times, trying to figure out what just happened. Staring back at him, were the faces of Francis, Arthur and Alfred. Francis was currently sporting his usual smirk; Arthur was smiling, while Alfred had his usual trademark grin.
"W-What?.. What's going on?" Matthew asked, suddenly confused. He was more confused at how the three of them managed to get in his house, while he had it locked. Walking over to the couch, he spotted a sleeping Kumajiro, with cookie dough all over his mouth. "You guys bribed him with food, didn't you? Alfred." He turned his attention back to the others, seeing Alfred scratch the back of his head nervously. "Hey, the hero couldn't break down your door, because Iggy wouldn't let me!" Arthur took this time to give Alfred a good smack on his back, glaring at him. "Anyways, happy birthday bro! You're getting so old!" Alfred ran over to him, engulfing him in a hug. Arthur and Francis quickly joined in, saying their own special "Happy Birthdays" to the Canadian. After a minute of their peaceful hugging, they all let go of one another, the three guests wanting to take a good look at the birthday boy.
Matthew felt some tears of joy run down his face. He honestly couldn't believe his one wish came true. All he had wanted, after all these years, was to spend his birthday with the people who matter the most to him. 'They all came here, just for me.' He felt his heart skipping beats, as Francis stepped forward, wiping away his tears. "Ahh, mon petite, do not cry~ Today is your birthday! Let us start by celebrating with ze' cake, oui? It's chocolate!" Matthew nodded, surprised that they had gotten him a cake. Alfred ran to the kitchen, already calling dibs on the pieces that had the most frosting on them. Arthur ran after him, yelling out that Matthew had the choice of choosing the first piece. Francis and Matthew followed behind, Francis reassuring him that Arthur did not make the cake- That he did, while the other two ended up making a mess in his kitchen. Matthew shook his head, laughing and imagining the sight.
'It isn't much...but they're my family. And I'll always love them.'
He couldn't have asked for a better birthday, than this.
