I opened my eyes to see the short blonde hair of the girl I fell in love with. We decided that we'd share a bed tonight here at Siegel Summer Institute. She was feeling down, and didn't want to be alone last night. Her hair was growing back from when I'd cut it for her. I almost thought she was more beautiful bald than when she had those long, flowing blonde locks of hair. Battle finally opened her eyes to see me staring. "Nicola, how long were you awake?" She asked me quietly.

"Not long." I responded. "Feeling better?" Battle nodded and sat up, scratching the back of her neck. She stepped out of the bed and got changed into her casual summer clothes. I yawned as I stretched and proceeded out the door. "I'll see you later, okay?" I said as I was opening the door. Battle smiled. "Yeah, I love you." She said casually.

"I love you, too." I said as I left.

"Dyke."

I heard that word so many times every day. Battle and I were walking through the Siegel Summer Institute grounds, holding hands and chatting. We'd learned to ignore the stares and scoffs. They used to bother me, but it didn't matter as much when Battle was with me.

"I gotta head to archaeology." I said softly.

Battle nodded and smiled. "I'll see you tonight, Nicola." She said, almost seductively. I felt a blush creeping up as she kissed me and ran to her class.

"How did I end up with a girl like her?" I asked myself as I walked to my class.
