In the aftermath two people stood in their own world, oblivious to the noise and smoke surrounding them, oblivious to their colleagues as they arrested the kidnappers, their only thoughts being each other. Danny and Lindsay stood in the middle of the room, clutching desperately to each other. Danny was relieved Lindsay was ok; he had been against her going undercover from the moment she had suggested it. Stubborn as ever, she had been adamant she would go in and make the drop off, and nothing Danny could say would make a difference.
Lindsay was relieved she was safe, and more importantly, that she had saved Dana from meeting the same fate as her friend. Standing there in Danny's arms she felt safer than she had done in a long time, his presence naturally reassuring her.
He hadn't always been so reassuring; Lindsay still remembered their first meeting, where Danny had tricked her into calling Mac "Sir", and left her sorting through tiger dung for body parts. She remembered how he had nicknamed her "Montana" on the first day she had joined the team, and the quips he made about her being a country girl. Outwardly she was sometime annoyed at him for it. Inwardly she loved his attention and enjoyed the playful banter the two of them shared, creating a close bond between the two of them.
And here they were, arms still wrapped around each other.
Danny tenderly stroked the loose curls on the back of her head as he held her, relishing the silky texture of her hair underneath his fingers. He leant his face forward, meeting the top of her head as he held her tighter. He could feel her heart racing in her chest as it pressed against his, knowing the trauma she had just lived through had caused it, squeezing her gently in the hope it would help calm her.
Lindsay gently pressed her face against the v-shaped gap at the top of Danny's shirt, her nose gently touching his throat. She could feel her heart beating wildly in her chest, unsure whether it was the shock of what she had been through or the heady scent of Danny Messer that was causing it to beat so fast. She breathed deeply, inhaling the unmistakable scent of Danny, causing a shiver to run down her spine.
Danny gently pulled himself back a little from Lindsay's grasp, holding her head gently in his hands. He looked deep into her brown eyes, feeling his heart begin to race as his blue eyes met hers. "Don't ever scare me like that again Montana, y'hear?" Lindsay smiled weakly at him before replying. "Promise." Danny's arms wrapped around Lindsay again, their foreheads meeting affectionately. "You worry me sometimes Montana." Danny whispered. Lindsay didn't have chance to reply as Danny's lips sought hers, pressing tenderly first, before a sense of urgency overtook them both. As their kiss deepened, Danny's hand found its way into Lindsay's hair, gently caressing the back of her skull, as her hands pressed tighter against his back.
They were brought back to reality by the tentative sounds of someone clearing their throat. The sound broke the near-silence that had surrounded the couple and the sounds of the room came rushing back. Their lips parted, but the remained locked together, eyes closed and foreheads meeting. The throat cleared itself again. "I hate to interrupt you two crazy love birds, but we're kind of in the middle of a crime scene here." Danny tentatively opened one eye and took in the figure of his colleague Don Flack grinning widely at the two of the. "I was always gunning for the two of yous to get it together." He beamed broadly at the two of them, wrapping an arm around each of them. "I knew you'd get together eventually!"
