Sunrise
I tightened the sky blue scarf that hung from my neck, flinching away from winter's cold bite. I glanced at the shining sphere that hung low in the sky, its pale light the only thing allowing me to see the one guiding me through the vast forest. I shivered once more, wishing silently that I had brought something warmer to protect myself from the frosty winds. I stopped, no longer able to bear the chill.
The small figure leading me turned, his bright yellow eyes glowing in the dark. Slowly, he walked to where I crouched near the glistening snow, hugging my knees for warmth. He leaned closer to my ear and whispered, his voice as soft as the falling snow, "Rise, my lady, we are closer than you may expect."
I peered into those kind, gentle eyes, not knowing whether to trust their owner and continue onward, or turn back to the edge of the forest where my warm castle awaited my return. I glanced over my shoulder, then back at those beautiful eyes. I rose, smiling down at the one I held so dear in my heart and allowed him to continue leading me through the woods.
As we walked together, I felt the need to tell him how I truly felt, but every time I opened my mouth to speak, a small thought prevented me from saying anything. I was worried, worried that if I told him, he would be offended or not share the same feelings, for how could I, princess of Hyrule, expect an ambassador from another planet, one I had just met recently, one who was not even the same species as I, to love me?
These thoughts destroyed any confidence I had left, causing me to wring my scarf in frustration. I became so occupied in my anger towards my cowardliness that I failed to notice when the trees began to clear. I felt someone tug at the hem of my dress, bringing my mind back to the present day. "We have arrived," my masked companion explained.
My blue eyes glanced about, observing my surroundings. We had stopped at the edge of a cliff overlooking the vast expanse of Hyrule field. The usual blanket of green was covered by snow that glistened in the quickly vanishing moonlight. I averted my gaze towards the horizon where small bands of golden, red, and orange light was beginning to appear. Soon, the gorgeous glowing wonder could be fully seen, its radiance shining down on us.
"It's beautiful..." I gasped as I took in the warmth of its rays. I turned around to face my guide, who had somehow managed to climb onto a low hanging branch. He now stood at my height. Though I could not see his face, I knew a smile lay hidden behind his silver mask. His normally yellow eyes had changed to the prettiest shade of blue I had ever seen. He motioned for me to walk to him, a motion which I obeyed, and once again leaned towards my ear.
"I know something more beautiful," he whispered, and I felt my heart skip a beat.
"You."
Before I could react, he removed his mask and kissed me passionately on the lips. I closed my eyes, not daring to believe this was actually happening, yet wanting it to continue forever. I thought that if I opened my eyes, everything would disappear like a dream. But the kiss continued, the moment growing more romantic by the second. I felt him slowly pull away and I opened my eyes. A small smile had formed on his face and he leaned in to whisper one last message.
"You, princess, are my sunrise."
A/N: Yes, yes, I know. It's short. Also, although the characters aren't mentioned by name, I'm pretty sure you were able to figure out who they were.
