Game: Call of Duty: Ghosts
POV: Logan Walker
Time: After the mission "The Ghost Killer"
"I'm proud of you, Logan," Hesh tells his younger brother with an expression Logan has not seen in such a long time: peace. The echo of their father's last words returns to him. Relief floods Logan as Hesh turns away. He can almost laugh out loud. This is how it ends, in victory for the Walker brothers. In redemption for their father.
In a sense, this is a new beginning for the small family. No one is left who would personally attack the Walkers. All immediate threats have been eliminated. The brothers can finally rest easy in this knowledge.
But still…there is a faint, lingering feeling that nags at the back of Logan's mind. It felt almost too easy. It all happened in a matter of minutes. Rorke was a haunting memory for Elias for the past twelve years. He was the main enemy for Hesh and Logan for the past six months. The family battled this imposing threat with such intensity and drive that, now that Rorke is finally dead, it all seems too unreal for Logan. Just like that. Done.
Uneasiness settles on Logan as he continues to watch the destruction being wrecked by Icarus. Sea gulls call faintly, the disturbed ocean water explodes in the distance, and the waves lap urgently across the pebbled shore. It's too perfect, too surreal. Something is off. Logan's instincts battle with his desire to feel the relief he felt moments before. He finds that he cannot. Just as he is about to call out to Hesh, to find comfort with his older brother, to have Hesh reassure him that everything is gonna be okay, a sound to his right catches his attention. Doom cascades over Logan. There it is. The uneasiness has taken form. Someone is there with the brothers. Try as he might to wish it were his father, Logan knows Elias is not there beside him.
Logan turns to his right, preparing himself for the inevitable. Oh, how he wishes it were his father he sees there…
