Olivia stood at her desk, her mouth hanging open in dumbstruck awe.
'Hell no.' She thought, her eyes fixed on it.
It hadn't been there five minutes ago when she'd gone to get some much needed coffee. In fact, she distinctly remembered it being on Elliot's desk⦠She looked across the desk at her partner and narrowed her eyes at the look of practiced innocence that graced his features. A small smile pulled at the corner of his lips.
"Elliot," she said in her best intimidating tone.
"Olivia?" He shot back not looking up from the work he pretended to be doing.
"This isn't funny Elliot," she said, the edges of her lips twitching in spite of her resolve to remain impassive.
She'd missed this, this easy camaraderie between them. It had been a long time since things had been this effortless between them. Ever since she'd come back to SVU things had been unbearably tense and awkward between them. And she was beginning to wonder if things would ever be the same.
"What?" Elliot asked pretending to be mystified.
He glanced up at her, his face evolving into a mega-watt smile. He swallowed a snort of laughter and busied himself with the file in his hands.
Olivia slid into her chair, hiding her smile behind her hand as she pretended to brush an errant strand of hair away from her face.
"Take it back El," she demanded stoically.
"Can't do that Liv," he said leaning back in his chair with a smile.
"Elliot," she said, her tone one of mild warning.
He just looked at her, smiling like an innocent choir boy.
"Damn it Elliot. How many times do I have to tell you?" She chastised, struggling to maintain some level of annoyance in her increasingly jovial voice.
"I am not doing your paperwork for you."
Elliot pretended to be hurt, putting on his very best wounded look.
Olivia couldn't help the laugh that sputtered from her lips.
"Fine. Fine," she said holding up her hands in defeat.
"I'll help you with your paperwork," she acceded, grabbing half the files he had piled on her desk and handing them to him.
She sat down at her desk, a smile plastered on her face. She glanced up at Elliot to find his eyes still on her.
He gave her a lopsided grin.
"Knew you'd give in," he teased.
Olivia shook her head and laughed.
"Shut up Elliot," she said with mock annoyance, not even trying the stop the chuckle that bubbled up inside her.
She let out a peaceful sigh, finally contented, finally back where she belonged.
