She woke up gasping for air, her lungs filling with warm, stuffy air. First thing she felt was nausea the smell of rust and burned oil sickening her. She rolled onto her stomach, almost unable to stop her dry-heaving. she was vaguely aware of the fact that, that means she hadn't eaten for at least a few days. she stumbled to her feet, using the wall as a support. Her head was pounding, the world was spinning, and she still had yet to figure out where she was. she had to blink a couple times to get her vision straight. she realized she was in some sort of lift, the only light coming in through a giant hole in the top of the box, she felt sick, like poison was seeping through her veins, and acid seemed to burn the sides of her stomach and throat. She felt like her head was filled with microscopic bugs, trying to eat away at her brain. All she felt was confusion
where am I, WHO am I?
She nearly panicked at the thought, trying to concentrate, come up with any explanation for who she was
Anne.
The word seemed so foreign, but familiar at the same time.
was that my name? It must be, I can't remember anything else...
then it suddenly sunk in.
I can't remember anything, not my family, my friends, my life story, I can't even remember what I look like!
Patting herself down and examining herself. She concluded she was a child, Twelve perhaps? she took off her beanie, letting her hair flow down her back, long, about to her waist, and... brown? Yeah, brown, I wonder what my face looks like, and My arms are covered in freckles, so no doubt I have those she has a round face, her skin is really soft and smooth, her nose small and round, and her eyelashes are long, she was vaguely aware that her cheekbones were very high on her face. Hmm, not much, but at least I know something.
After a few minutes of careful examining of her baggy clothes((dirty, most likely made for a guy)) and stuffing her hair back up into the beanie, she concluded she must be a girl. she stood up, taking the time to roll up the baggy pant legs of her trousers up and tightening her belt, she spun in a slow half circle, to get her bearings. She was in some type of old lift, surrounded by crates and other boxes, supplies were crowded all around the box. Why? Where are they going? Why are they going there? she couldn't help scrunch up her eyebrows in confusion, and being the curious child she seem to be, she explored.
She knew she had to find her way out of here, but as far as she could tell there was only one way out. Up. She'd already climbed up the side of the box to check it out, an empty hallway, and from the looks of it, this was probably some sort of government facility((how she knew that she wasn't sure)) So instead of risking her life for the possible chance of escape, she decided to find as many supplies as possible, whoever put me here, had me here for a reason, and I'm going to get to the bottom of it she found a backpack that seemed to be full, so she strung it on her back for later, filling it with useful supplies as she went. It took her a while to find something to break open the crates with, but she managed to find a crowbar in a barrel of supplies in the corner of the room. And it took her even longer to get any of them open, but so far she'd managed to find a box of medical supplies, some building supplies, gardening tools, kitchen supplies, clothes, food items((a few of which she snagged for later, and indulged herself in some actual food)) a few cages of goats and chickens((why they had those in crates she don't know)) and a box of sleeping supplies, she's not quite sure how long she'd been in there so far, but her instincts told her she'd been there a good twenty minutes. She now found herself forcing her weight down onto the crowbar, the box she was currently trying to break into creaking dangerously, When she suddenly heard a door opening and the shuffling of feet. she opened my mouth to call out to them, but was stopped short when the lid of the box snapped off, causing her to fall flat on her face, in the process knocking over the box, and spilling all of it's contents.
"Wait, did you hear that?" she froze, a man's voice, muffled by some sort of mask
"It's probably just one of the animals trying to get out" replied the second, his voice just as muffled. the first man was silent for a while. she just held her breath, completely still
"Yeah, you're probably right" she heard them getting closer, walking up what sounded like a stepladder. She searched desperately for somewhere to hide, but found nowhere she wouldn't be seen, the side of the box was too high up. she felt panic seize her heart, she couldn't move, she was caught
THUMP
She nearly shrieked as a dead looking boy crashed down onto the floor in front of her. causing the whole lift to shake. She looked up just in time to see a man with a mask on pear over the side of the giant box "Holy- Smith, Come look at this!" soon after she saw another masked head peak over the side
"What the-? How is she awake!? I thought she wasn't supposed to wake up till this thing got moving!"
"How am I supposed to know? I'm no bloody scientist!"
"Come on- lets just go tell the Chancellor" she saw the second one- smith, disappear over the edge, but the first one seemed hesitant
"Wait- what about the girl?"
"Leave her, it's not like she's going anywhere anytime soon, she probably can't even get herself out anyway" and with that, they were gone I have no idea where I am, what I'm doing here, or WHO I am, all I have is a NAME!
At this point all she could do was stare at the wall across from her, feeling tears prick at her eyes, waiting for the guards to come back, they were right, even if she managed to climb out, where would she go?. I just wish I could go home, If I even HAVE a home. do I have a family? A mom? A dad? Siblings? Pets? ANYTHING? Does anyone even miss me? these people could kill me, or torturer me, or experiment on me, or- Well, I don't even know! And nobody would even know- or care! She took a deep breath to calm herself calm down Anne, you can do this, you can do this
she just sat there for at least two hours, before she heard any voices, they'd returned
"She's really awake?" a very smooth but strict voice, a female, most probably the one in charge "I have to say, that girl never fails to amaze me, which is why we almost couldn't put her into the trials, there's a strong risk she could start to remember things. But, I found it in myself to allow her to proceed. I'm expecting great responses from that girl" she could hear the smile in the woman's voice. It sent a chill down her spine. What trials? How did she know me. Who is she? Who AM I!? Suddenly the roof door creaked shut above her, she jerked her head up just in time to see them locking the old rusty cage. And preparing to close the huge thick metal door that was letting the light in. She felt bile rising up in her throat. Right before the door slammed shut, she heard the crisp voice of the woman say one line that made her blood run cold "Goodbye miss Anne. we'll be seeing you in the trials, and remember" the womans face finally appeared in the small gap of the door that was still open, a tight lipped smile on her face "WICKED is good" and with that, all light disappeared from her sight
Anne stayed still like that for awhile, unable to comprehend what she had heard, and unable to process what was going on, all she knew, was now she was alone, and she was blind. When she finally did manage the strength to stand, she was only able to take a few steps before the room suddenly jerked into movement. She was knocked off her feet, flung across the room onto the dumped out supplies from earlier. She let out a sharp hiss when she felt something sharp cut open her palm, the word ''knife'' floating it the back of her mind. She quickly stumbled away from the mess, feeling a slow but steady trickle of blood dripping from her hand. Tears started forming again, but she shook them off no, I can't cry, not now, I have work to do. she quickly moved back to the box with the medical supplies, stumbling over a number of other various items around the room, and accidentally trampling over the limp form of her fellow passenger, mentally apologizing to the poor kid, before continuing on her way
Somehow she managed to make her way to the box in one piece, before realizing she couldn't see. she groaned, yanking off her bag and searching through it for the flashlight she'd managed to find earlier. She mentally rejoiced when she finally found her prize, flicking it on after her mini-celebration, she searched through the box for what she was looking for. she managed to find gauze, disinfectant, and a water bottle to rinse the blood off with. She cursed when she realized the cut was worse than she thought, it looked horrible, and probably needed stitching. she wrapped her hand up, ignoring the fact that she didn't remember learning how to do what she just did, and just figuring out this whole mess one step at a time. Where's all those bloody stitching supplies...
She glanced at the boy, realizing after a quick once-over. He couldn't be much older than she was. He also wore a beanie on his head, and sporting the same((albeit bigger)) outfit she was in, a baggy pair of trousers, and a t-shirt. she frowned. He looked skinnier than a normal boy would be- or what she remembered a normal boy to be, his hair was shaggy, and probably a tangled mess, but he somehow seemed proportionate to her and not to bad with the looks either she laughed at the thought before realizing with a cringe that he'd probably smashed his face on the way down. she went over to him, rolling him onto his back to access the damage. She cringed again, his nose had been squashed into a very unnatural position, definitely dislocated, if not broken. Well, looks like I'll have to put this medical knowledge to good use.
After a very horrible((and gruesome)) experience of fixing up the poor kid's nose((which had in fact been broken, thankfully not shattered)) she'd opened a few more boxes, and collected some'ore supplies, including a couple of nice knives she'd found from the spill she made earlier, and then moving back to the boy. she relaxed against a crate, looking over her handiwork. It wasn't perfect, and would probably heal oddly, but she was proud of what she'd done- considering her lack of resources that is. Sure it'd be better if he had a REAL doctor fix him up, but I'm all he has. Now she sat, staring into oblivion, thinking over the last few hours, just how messed up it had been, and now this kid had been dragged into this too?
She suddenly felt a deep burning hatred build up in her heart., when she looked at the boxes again, they were all labeled with the same acronym the woman had said, and in her opinion they were most definitely NOT good I swear you won't get away with this... she stood up, going over to the wall, grinding her teeth together, she threw a bunch at the stupid thing, feeling the box shake in response, she did it again, and again, and again. Before she knew it she was full out beating the wall, dumping everything out of the crates and breaking them to pieces. Destroying every crate she could find, she couldn't stand to see anything that said that horrible name, she hated it. It hurt so much, she screamed on the top of her lungs, yelling every profanity she could think of at the people behind this. She couldn't stand them, she couldn't stand this box, and she DEFINITELY couldn't stand any of these stupid labels!
By the time she had finally calmed down from her outburst, now fully aware that the walls were probably coated in my blood by now, and her knuckles were shredded, she'd been at it for at least fifteen minutes, but she didn't bloody care, they'd taken everything from her, her memory, her life, and everything that made her, her. and for the first time since she'd woken up in this bloody box, she broke down crying
He woke up to the sound of grinding metal and the smell of burnt oil. The world around him was pitch black, and for a moment he almost wondered if he was blind, but the thought was cut off by an unbearable wave of nausea, he had to roll onto his side, hurling up the contents of his stomach, he felt lightheaded and disoriented. he tried to get to his feet but found myself stumbling around, dizziness sending him tumbling back to the floor, cursing at his inability to gain balance. He tried to blink away the feeling, but it wasn't doing much, he could almost feel the world spinning around him, he felt around himself, managing to find a box in the dark, he put his weight on it, pushing himself back to his feet, and shaking his head to get his thoughts back together. The feeling slowly went away, but soon as it did an overwhelming crushing pain seemed to consume his nose, he groaned at the feel of it. his hand springing up to cup it. He felt bandages, and realized he must have hurt it somehow.
When did I...?
His thoughts were cut off by a small voice from the corner of the room, a girl? He couldn't be sure "You finally woke up" He jumped in surprise, backing back into his corner of the box
" Wh-why can't I remember...?" He mentally kicked himself for sounding so stupid. But he just heard the other inhabitant laugh. Somehow... familiar
" That's the first thing you ask? Eh, well, I guess that should be expected. Here, drink up, ah, eat something too, you're probably hungry" He heard something land near him, a water bottle and a sack that had some bread in it. He noted with a frown that her voice was croaky, like She'd been crying.
"Where are we?" He decided to keep a cool head for now, chomping on his bread and taking a couple swigs from his bottle, it wasn't much, but it was better than starving
"Not sure, I just woke up here, same as you, only... I've been awake for maybe..." She paused "four hours?" he choked
"FOUR HOURS!? You could have woken me up!" He heard her laugh at his outburst
"Oh shut up, thought you could use the beauty sleep, trust me dude, you need it" He frowned, whoever this girl was, he wasn't sure if he liked her
"How do you even know what I look like?" She laughed again, deepening his frown
"Because" she teased "I have a flashlight" he coughed
"Then why didn't you tell me sooner!?" He could almost feel her smiling
"Cause you just woke up doofus, how'dya think you'd react to a light suddenly being shined in your face right when you wake up in a dark room with no idea where you are?"
" Point taken..." he grumbled "still, that's so unfair"
" Hey, you're not the one who had to spend four hour in this stupid box alone" yep, she was definitely laughing at him now "don't you think I'd have looked around a bit?" he grumbled in response
" Yeah, yeah, just tell me what the heck happened, my nose is really fricked up..." he cringes at the reminder of his throbbing- and probably swollen nose, he can practically feel her cringing
" Yeah... sorry 'bout that dude, looks like someone decided throwing disoriented kids headfirst into a huge bloody box was a brilliant idea..."
" Are you British or something?" his eyebrows scrunched together, she didn't SOUND British, but she sure seemed to use the same kind of 'slang' as they do"and what do you mean headfirst!?" he heard her laugh
" Yeah, I saw the whole thing, I was just chilling in here and then suddenly THUNK! They just tossed you in here like a sack of potato's" she paused "and no, I'm not bloody British- at least I don't think so, that's just the way I talk, who knows, maybe I was friends with some English bloke who rubbed off on me, you know, before we got our memory's swiped and thrown into this stupid box" he rolled his eyes
" Yeah, yeah, hilarious" he sighed and leaned back after finishing the last of his bread "So what's with tha bandages?"
" Oh, those" she laughed again "well, I couldn't exactly leave your nose like that, so I fixed it up a bit- don't ask how I knew to do that, I just did, and don't complain. I did what I could, I didn't have the proper materials to fix a broken nose, you'd have to go to a hospital for that" his eyes widened
"Wait, wait- Broken!?" his voice raised an octave, causing the girl to laugh
"Yea, it looked HORRIBLE, seriously, there was blood everywhere and it was twisted into the weirdest-"
"-OKAY, OKAY" he gagged "that's enough of that story, now seriously, where are we?"
"As I said, dunno, it's some kind of lift... like the ones in mineshaft's, we must've been pretty far down though, it's been rising for a while"
"-Wait, RISING!?" she laughs again
"Seriously? You didn't even notice!?" he could hear the girl cackling across the room like some deranged hyena, he rolled his eyes
"Hey, my heads been a little messed up since I woke up, cut me some slack" his frown deepens "who threw us in here anyway?"
"Well" she manages to calm herself down, but he can tell she's still pretty amused with him "I don't actually know, some kind of guard dude's and a lady"
"That's very informative" he rolls his eyes "now seriously, could you please just tell me SOMETHING useful" he hears her scoff
"Fine grumpy pants" she huffs, reminding him of a child who didn't get their way "Anyway, I woke up in this stupid box, freaked out a bit, explored my surroundings, raided the bloody supplies, and then they threw you in here"
"Bloody brilliant" he muttered "so we don't know anything? Do you have anything useful to say?"
"Hey, don't be hatin so much, don't forget I got thrown in this box too, and I was here for four bloody hours before you arrived" her voice held a silent threat, but there was still that tone to her voice that told him she was still amused
"Fine, fine. Point taken, just continue" he leaned back again, relaxing, somehow this kid had managed to calm him down
"Anyway, then the lady said some weird sh-" she paused "-stuff and shut the doors, and after that it was pretty boring"
"Dude, you can't even say-?" he felt a laugh boiling up
"-Not. One. Word." she seethed
"Come on-" by now he was full out grinning
"-None!" he could practically feel her glare
"Okay, okay, fine grumpy pants" he smirked, letting her win this one, still finding it amusing how she had deliberately tried to avoid cursing "just pass me the flashlight"
"Here, I have an extra" he heard something slide across the floor and hit his leg, he raised a brow and turned on the light, making the girl- er, what he thought was a girl, shield her eyes from the light
"Hey-! That's bright ya know!" but he ignored her, he was too distracted by the state of the whole room, starring wide eyed at the mess this girl had made, supplies were scattered everywhere, pieces of broken boards and what appeared to be the reminiscences of crates everywhere, a few animal cage's knocked upside down or onto their sides, but the thing that most shocked him was the huge bloodstain covering the wall next to her "you gonna just stand there or move that stupid light out of my face?" that snapped him out of his stoop-er
"Oh- sorry..." he moved the flashlight to the side, this time looking at her, she wore a beanie on her head, which seemed to conceal all of her hair, a baggy long sleeved shirt that looked a few sizes too big for her. tan, baggy pants that looked almost identical to his, only smaller, with a belt holding them up. And a pair of worn tennis shoes. Had he not been staring at her face he probably would've laughed at how she rolled her sleeves all the way up to her elbows, or that she's rolled up her pant legs. He vaguely noticed that not including the rather pretty face, she looked like a boy, he guessed from the color of her eyebrows that she probably had brown hair. Her face was round, and covered in freckles, she had a tiny button nose. She could definitely be considered pretty, but at the same time she could pass of as a little boy just fine, she was short enough
" You okay?" she'd quirked her brow, smirking slightly "You look surprised"
"Sorry- I mean, I didn't quite expect you to look like... I just thought..." he shook his head to try to get his wits together, walking up to her as her spoke "You are a girl right?" she stared at him for a few seconds before laughing
"Dude... did you just imply I look like a boy? don't you know you're never supposed to say that to a girl?" He felt himself flush in embarrassment before muttering a soft 'shut up'' "no, no, seriously, that's hilarious! Oh my gosh! oh-! oh-! That is so AWESOME. Man that's great" she smiled, he rolled his eyes and looked at her knuckles, his expression turning into a frown
"Your fists... what the heck did you do?" she blinked, following his eyes
"Ah- ahaha...ha, right... that..." she laughs awkwardly "well, I guess I'm a pretty violent person?" he shakes his head at her response, lifting her hand to get a good look at her knuckles
"This is pretty bad... come one" he dragged her over to where he saw the gauze laying around, and picked it up "let's get you fixed up"
"Sorry..." she muttered, plopping onto the ground by the medical supplies "I just... didn't take being locked in this bloody box very well..." he scoffed
"Clearly, now come on, hand them over" he put his hand out, where she reluctantly placed her hand in his, and he started pouring the rest of his water over her hand to wash the blood off, picking up a clean rag to day off the blood "now did this happen before or after you fixed me up?" she stayed quiet for a while before muttering a reluctant 'after' he sighed and continued to clean the wound, before pausing to flip her hand over, quirking his brow at the deep cut on her palm, she shrugged
" I cleaned that one earlier, before I fixed you up, the bandage fell off sometime during my little fit I guess" she refused to look at my face "fell on a knife when the box started moving..." he simply sighs and re-cleans the wound, picking up the disinfectant and putting it onto a clean rag, and patting at her wounds, she hissed in pain
" Seriously... these look horrible how long were you at it?" he asked, scrunching his face up as he wrapped her hand I gauze. She shrugs
" Fifteen minutes?" he curses at her confession
" You really are a violent person. Other one" after taping the bandaging together, he moves to the other fist, it's quiet for a while, the only sounds being the girls occasional hisses of pain, and the sound of the boy shuffling through the supplies, he was almost done when the girl finally spoke up again
" Sooooooooooo... remember your name?" he found himself laughing at the question
" Not yet no, why?" she shrugs
" Just curious" it was quiet for a while more after that, before he finally became fed up with the silence
" How are you so freaking calm? We've been locked in this shitty box for who knows how long, and you're just sitting there like everything right with the world"
" Dunno, it was probably my personality before this whole mess, then again" she paused "I might be bi-polar"
"You are one messed up kid" he tried to be cross with her odd response, but he couldn't help but laugh, thinking about it, if she wasn't here he'd probably have been doing the same thing she had
" Seriously though" she smiled at him "I wasn't very calm at first, but after a few hours it's not hard to calm yourself down" he looks at her, pausing for a moment. But just when he's about to open his mouth, the box jerks to a halt, causing the two of them to lose their balance, He somehow managed to catch the girls arm before she flew across the room though. He looked around in a panic
"What's going on!?" He looked at the girl, fear in his eyes. But she just stared up at the ceiling, face blank, and devoid of any emotion, but the tiny sliver of fear he saw in her eyes
"We're here"

I'll just tell you now that this is my first story((that I haven't adopted)) so I'd appreciate a little support, I know OC stories are a little risky for a beginner, but I Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy wanted to do it, I've been thinking about this story for WEEKS! And I finally decided to try it. Also I decided to use a combination of the books and the movie, with a bit of my own extra flare, so anyway heh ^w^ hope you like it~!
