He didn't realize it, until that mission. That mission that sort of, kind of, did change his life. It hit him as they were leaving, dirty, hurting, but satisfied. It hit him as he was about to walk through the shimmering horizon that threw their fate all to pieces.
Daniel wasn't only Daniel, wasn't only an archaeologist. He was fire reincarnate, fire rejuvenated, fire revived. And, he controlled the flames with a passion.
He obsessed over anything and was passionate over everything he loved. He loved live with zeal, a burning, heated, flaming inferno that could tear apart the sky if it was ever let out of his control. His enthusiasm for living was a roaringblazingfurious love that possessed him with fervor.
And, so, when we walked up to the gate, the three of us, and we looked back at the column of fire, the wall of thunderous flames, I realized that it was a fitting end for the fire reincarnate, the master, ruler, of flames.
And, I saluted the last of the Fire line.
And…as I turned, there were tears running down my face.
And…I walked through the gate, the barricade of flames at my back.
And…I cried.
