I was one of the youngest of the Greek Pantheon of gods, turned immortal at the young age of sixteen. I didn't ask for immortality, Zeus, mighty King of the gods, forced it onto me. Its funny what fear and a healthy dose of paranoia will do to a god.
My name is Cerin I'm a minor god of the Hunt, Shadow's and Reality. At one point in time I was a demigod of one of the Protogenoi, the first gods, but my godly parent was Erebus, the first god of shadows. You think that me and my father have a good relationship you'd think wrong.
Erebus tries, he does, I just don't let him in. Where was he when my mother was lying, bright crimson blood rushing out of her lifeless body, on the floor of our desolate house. Whatever, he's given up and declared war on me. Next is Nyx, my immortal step-mother. To be honest, Nyx and I have a better relationship than most children that have spawned from an affair.
Now that most of my background is out of the way we can get onto the proper part of this story. What we're going to do is go from my birth to the death of Erebus, and my crowning of King of the Shadows.
A sharp cry of pain broke the silence of the forest. Katherine had known that giving birth would be hard, she just didn't expect it to be this painful. Having nobody to help deliver the baby made it even more tough.
Crying out in torment one last time, Katherine smiled for the first time in what felt like hours, hearing the sound of a scant child crying in indignation. Katherine pushed past the pain of giving birth and scrambled to gather her child in her arms.
Looking into the unnatural violet eyes of her child, Katherine knew he would have a life full of hardship and agony, he was after all, a demigod. Tuffs of ebony locks sat upon her child's head, no doubt to become a mess when he's older.
Looking at her baby's face, Katherine knew her child would have a sharp face with strong features. Yes Katherine knew her child would grow up to be handsome, and Katherine hoped she would be able to see it.
The sound of twigs cracking underfoot snapped Katherine out of the joyous moment. Knowing that the forest wasn't the safest place for a child, Katherine swiftly jogged to her desolate house on the edge of the forest.
Entering the shack, Katherine saw the man camouflaged in shadows. The man was tall, at least 6'5". Not only tall, the man was thin, stepping out of the shade pointed this out to Katherine. The deity studied Katherine with violet eyes, same shade as her son, glistening with age and love, locks of flowing raven hair brushing the tip of his nose and masking his left eye. Looking at her child's eyes and knowing who the man was to him, Katherine regarded the being thoughtfully. "You know that you can not be here Erebus," she informed the man, causing him the scowl harshly at the ground.
"But I want to be, 'Rine," shining purple eyes gleaming with sorrow," I didn't want to miss the birth of my child. What did you name him?" Erebus questioned.
Stroking the baby's tuff of hair, Katherine peered at Erebus, and responded, "I have named him Cerin, Gaelic for little dark one for he was borne of Erebus, the First God of Shadows. Now leave, he will have a hard time surviving."
Nodding with appreciation at the name, as well as acceptance, Erebus stepped into the shadows and dissolved into nothing. Breathing a sigh of respite, Katherine looked at Cerin and hoped that he would be happy for at least a decade.
