Let It Be Me
Prompt: Let It Be Me- Ray Lamontagne

Dear Reid,

There comes a time, a time that everyone's right.
When nothing seems to go your way.
When nothing seems to turn out right.
There comes a time, you just can't seem to find your place.

You are such an amazing, smart person. You've been through so much in your life. When you were just a young boy, your father left and you had to put your mother into an asylum. Because you're so smart, you were twelve when you were in high school. What the other students did to you was horrible. You confided in us, as your friends, to tell us what had occurred.

For every door you open,
seems like you get two slammed in your face.
That's when you need someone,
someone that you can call.
When all your faith is gone,
it feels like you can't go on.
Let it be me.

In my first year on the job, I became terrified when Tobias Hankel kidnapped you. I wish we could have saved you, before you were drugged. After that case, our friendship was damaged. I knew something was wrong with you, I just didn't know what. While we were searching homeless shelters, you got really angry with me. You acted like I was crazy and nothing was bothering you. I am so happy that we made it past that.

If it's a friend you need, let it be me.
Feels like you're always coming up last.
Pockets full of nothing, ain't got no cash.
No matter where you turn,
you ain't got no place to stand.
You reach out for something and they slap your hand.

Gideon left you hurt and broken. He was like a father to you. No one wanted him to leave, but he couldn't handle it all anymore. On the day of the case, I knew I needed to speak to you. I could tell that you were upset. There was a reason Gideon only addressed the letter to you. He knew you would come to find him at the cabin. I told you to reread the letter and hope you found the answer.

I was thinking of leaving the B.A.U. during all of this chaos. Strauss had come to me and wanted me to help her get Hotch fired. She wanted to see him mess up. I just couldn't do that to him. I never wanted to leave because I never wanted to leave you.

I remember all too well,
just how it feels to be all alone.
Feel like you'd give anything,
for just a little place you can call your own.

On the case where we dealt with Owen Savage, I felt so bad for you. You got so worked up on this case. It was a personal case for you. You told Morgan about what happened to you in high school. Owen came to the police station with an AK-47 and you went up to him to talk him down. I can still remember how crazy I thought you were when you told me to hold your gun. Hotch almost fired you because of that.

That's when you need someone,
someone that you can call.
When all your faith is gone,
it feels like you can't go on.
Let it be me.

In Colorado, the case didn't turn out how it should have. Cyrus found out one of us was an FBI agent. I couldn't let you get shot. I had to stand up and take the pain. I told you that I would do it again if I had to and I would. I could never live it down if something happens to you. When the compound blew up, I thought you were gone. I was so scared. I could see how relieved you were to see me. I will never forget how I felt at that moment.

If it's a friend you need,
let it be me.
Let it be me.
