Behind My Eyes

Author's note: I wrote this poem a long time ago for someone I fancied back in High School... I changed it here and there for the story's sake; please R+R constructive criticism is always welcome. Please though, be nice about the poem. It was my first ever.

Kiyone walked through the hall of the apartment that she shared with her partner Mihoshi.
"Mihoshi, are you in there?" She called out, looking for her partner, who constantly showed up while she was trying to do something private. Then she found a note on the table.
"Kiyone," The note read, "I went out with Ayeka and Sasami tonight. Expect me back around two in the morning."
Kiyone walked back into the living room and sat at the table. Tonight's the night, she thought as she pulled out a pencil.
"Dear Tenchi," She said out loud as she wrote this letter. "There are many things I need to say:"

My eyes can say more
Than any human's speech,
Take a look inside
Inside my eyes, the truth flows free

I know I don't speak much,
It hurts too much inside,
But my aching is good
I shall hide it with pride

I see the distasteful way
The girls fight over you
In order to prove
That their love is true.

I'll never fight
Because I know I can't win
To be dragged down to Ryoko's level
To myself I would sin.

Kiyone suddenly heard a sound, as if somebody was coming up the walk. "How long have I been writing this?" She asked herself. She hurriedly wrote the rest of the letter.

I will not give up on you
And very hard I will try
To help you to see the love
Hidden within my heart,
and my eyes.

-With all my love, Kiyone.

Kiyone finished rolling up the paper as her partner Mihoshi came in. She hid the paper so Mihoshi couldn't see it.

"Hello, Kiyone," Mihoshi said, brightly. "How was your night?"
"Fine. How was yours?"
"Oh it was so much fun, Ayeka and I went out to do Karaoke. I told her we should come get you, but you looked so tired today."
"That's nice," Kiyone replied, trying to sound nonchalant.
"What's wrong, Kiyone?" Mihoshi asked, picking up on Kiyone's saddened emotions.
"Oh, nothing," Kiyone replied softly, staring out at the moon. "Nothing at all."
