She stands alone in their little apartment, listening to yelling voices that can no longer be heard. Bitter memories well up in her mind and heart, and she remembers their times together, both good times and bad. She recalls the times when only she, the woman who'd she only thought had loved her as much as she still loves her, could comfort her; the times when her angry words, stinging blows, and hurtful actions made her ache to rip out her own heart; and every moment in between.
She stands alone in the small space of destruction, and though she's all alone, she still feels her presence so strongly that, if she closes her hurting eyes, she can almost believe that she is still there with her, standing just a few feet away, still within her grasp. Yet she's gone, and she's never coming back.
Hot tears spill down her face, each drop spiraling faster than the one before it. She falls to her knees, unaware of the gasp that escapes her. Her hands go to the shards of glass beneath her, and her blood flows crimson as she picks them up. She doesn't care that she's being cut; she barely feels the physical pain for that which already consumes every inch of her. The glass reminds her of her heart, which once was whole but now, like the glass, only remains in little, tattered, and aching fragments, and she wishes that she'd taken those final pieces with her too.
The End
