'The State's Attorney is coming after you because you are sleeping with his wife.' She stands close to him, her voice steady and forceful, words clipped with anger lurking underneath. 'Stop it. Do you understand me?' With a final pointed look, she spins away, shoulders stiff, head high, without waiting for a response.

He can feel the fury pumping through him as he punches the air. She's already halfway down the sidewalk when he calls at her back 'Or what Diane?', a challenge in his voice, his posture.

She turns slowly, fury and alarm on her face in equal measure. 'Or you go to jail Will. You get disbarred. They destroy our firm. Do I really have to explain this to you?'

'This is not about me going to jail. We both know better than that.' His voice is hard.

'I won't let you risk my firm.' Now her voice goes low, taking one stiff step towards him.

'It's not your firm. It's our firm.' He strides towards her, two steps, his hand jabbing in the air. 'We're equal partners Diane.'

Frustration is warring with the anger on her face. 'I've always kept myself out of your relationships. But this is your life Will.' There's a plea among the anger in her voice. 'Your firm, your career. You've worked your whole life for this and now you're going to throw it all away? For what?'

'No, Diane, it's part of my life. Alicia is the other part.' His voice is steady.

'Right.' Her hands fly into the air. 'She's such a huge part of your life she's still married to someone else. Do you have a plan for that Will? Or is that just irrelevant?'

'The circumstances of my relationship with Alicia are none of your business.' Her eyes bulge at his determined dismissal, her jaw opening. 'What matters is what I do about this investigation and what I do for the firm.'

'This is insane.' Her head shakes at him. 'You've made your relationship with her part of all of this! This wouldn't exist if you weren't sleeping with her.'

'So the answer is what? Let him force me to drop things because he's jealous? That's bullshit Diane.' His face is outraged frustration even as his head shakes.

She pauses, swallows hard as she tries to refocus, searching for a new tact. 'Don't make it about Peter Florrick. Think about the firm. You sleeping with Alicia is bad for the firm. It's bad for your career. Think about that.' She's in his face now, eyes wide.

'I won't give her up.' His voice is quieter now, the anger fading. His eyes are apologetic but refuse to be regretful.

She closes her eyes for a moment. 'She's still married Will. Your relationship is a secret. What kind of relationship is that?'

For a moment, his eyes will away her comments. 'Things are still new. How they are now is not how they will always be.' There is determined faith in his voice even as his eyes go tired.

'You don't know that.' Her voice is steady, forceful. 'You're giving up what you have, what you've worked hard for, for something you might never have!'

'I finally have her Diane.' His tone is quiet, beseeching even as he looks away. He wants her to understand.

'Don't be stupid Will. Don't be stupid with your life, with my life.' His eyes go back to hers. 'We're equal partners. What hits you hits me.' He swallows hard, his gaze flying up to the sky. 'You want to throw it all away on this relationship, that's your right. But don't expect me to.'

Now his eyes are steady, firm on hers. 'I don't. All I expect from you is for you not to fight me too.'

'Why does she matter so much to you?' Her gaze is questioning, mystified but she shakes her head before he can answer. 'I'm not going to walk away and make you fight this on your own. Just…Will. Think. Don't be stupid.' This time her face is worried when she turns to walk away, shoulders straight, head down. Watching her go, he's scared for the first time.
