Meteor Shower

I'm in a Sora and Kairi mood for some reason.

Sora was snoring on the beach where he had fallen asleep at in the afternoon. He wasn't sure exactly what he was dreaming of, something about light and darkness and flashing…swords? It really puzzled him.

Then, he heard warm laughter and he felt someone shoving him.

"Wake up Sora!"

He scrambled to his feet, looking around. It was night, and the waves were illuminated silver and dark blue. Stars shone on the surface, rippling in the tides. The moon hung high in the sky, bright white and casting its radiance down on the two friends on the beach.

"Kairi? What is it?" Sora said with a yawn.

"A meteor shower is supposed to start today! My dad said so!" She was practically hopping up and down with excitement.

Sora smiled, brushing his clothes off. "Okay, let's go!"

They raced over to the old shed on the beach and took the stairs inside it that led to the raised cliff with the bent paopu tree on it. They sat down on the tree, staring at the sky.

"Any particular time it should start?" Sora said casually.

"In one minute. The shooting stars are going to look so beautiful, right, Sora?" She turned to smile at him, and Sora nodded.

"Right." He replied.

"What about Riku?" Kairi asked with a frown.

Sora had gotten into an argument with him earlier, so he didn't really want to talk to his best friend at the moment.

"It'd take too long to row back to the island; we only have like thirty seconds, don't we?"

Kairi nodded. "Well, I hope he can see it!" She was a naturally optimistic person, so it was hard to keep her down for long.

Then, it started.

"Kairi, look!"

The stars began to streak across the blackened sky, leaving behind silver trails of dust. It looked like an artist was painting strange patterns and pictures across the sky, and the designs were simply breathtaking.

"It's like a firework display, Sora!" Kairi breathed. Sora turned to look at her, and he stared at a loss for words.

Her eyes, deep blue, were reflecting the stars. A soft smile graced her lips, and she looked positively radiant.

"Kairi?"

She didn't remove her eyes from the stars.

"Yeah?"

Sora hesitated, twiddling his thumbs. He really wanted to share the paopu with her, wouldn't that be…perfect? A star shaped fruit for a meteor shower…right? But he couldn't, not now anyway.

"Nothing. "

The stars jumped and leaped across the sky, and Kairi said uneasily,

"What if the meteor lands here?"

Sora smiled, tapping his wooden sword he always had with him.

"I'll have to hit it back, right?" He mimed the meteor soaring toward the sky while he swung like a baseball bat.

Kairi laughed, and Sora smiled, leaning back on his hands.

He had a lot of moments with Kairi like this. Just the pair of them, alone…

Kairi smiled then. "I have something for you, Sora."

"What?" He asked, confused.

She handed him a silver necklace with a crown pendant. "I saved up my allowance. When I saw it in the store, it looked so perfect!"

Sora was delighted, and after thanking her he slipped it over his own head.

"I'm going to get you something." He promised.

"You don't have to."

"Of course I do!" He already had a vague idea…but…

Sora shook his head, resolved to think about it later, and closed his mind and eyes to everything but Kairi and the star shower.
