Disclaimer: The Walking Dead belongs to AMC, not me. I just own the story

Pairings: Rick/Lori and hints of Rick/Daryl, I guess?

Warnings: OOC, past character death...hints of slash?

~OoO~

From the watch tower, he could see him. He see him wandering outside of the gate, walking aimlessly around as if he was trying to find something. Rick's been out here for only about three minutes and all Daryl ever did was just stare, trying to decide whether he should see how he is or just leave him be.

Daryl finally made his decision as he quickly left the tower, running down to open the gates but just enough for him to get through. He quickly scanned the area, seeing that there was no walkers around, but he still had his crossbow with him, just in case something popped up all of the sudden.

The young redneck jogged over to where Rick was but then paused when he heard him muttering something to himself.

"Lori...Lori, is that you...? Lori...?"

He widened his eyes in sudden realization.

Maybe that was why Daryl hadn't seen him ever since Rick had went onto that weird killing spree when he was informed of Lori's death. She's been gone for two days and now Rick was out here calling out to her, trying to reach out to her, to wherever she was now.

He looked around the area, seeing that he and Rick were the only ones here. He looked back at Rick, who was staring at something. Daryl followed his gaze but he didn't see anything. All he could see were a bunch of bushes and trees.

Lori wasn't in any of them.

As quiet as a mouse, Daryl moved closer to Rick and reached over, placing a hand on the man's shoulder.

"Rick?" He called out.

Nothing. The man was still staring at the same spot and Daryl shook him a little.

"Rick, ya a'right? Rick!"

That got the man's attention and he turned around to look at the younger man, with a dazed expression.

"Huh?" He said, dumbly. It almost pained the hunter's heart when he saw how weary and dirty Rick looked. Who wasn't nowadays, but it made Rick look like a completely different person. Like he was a stranger.

"What were ya starin' at, man?" Daryl asked, his voice traced with concern.

"I-I was..." Rick turned around at the spot he was looking at and he pointed a finger at it. "Lori...she was here."

To Daryl, Rick sounded like a confused, lost little child. Not the strong, confident man he was just days before.

"Rick...she ain't there, she ain't anywhere no more. Lori's gone. She ain't here." The redneck hunter assured him, shaking his head. "It's jus' you and me out here. I'm sorry."

The former policeman didn't say anything nor did he moved. He kept his eyes fixated on that spot. Probably trying not to listen to the hunter's words and only wanting to hear his wife's quiet, soothing words again.

Daryl sighed, grabbed his arm and dragged him back to the prison.

"C'mon, man. Ya need to come back to us, yer family. They need ya." He said. "I need ya."

Much more to Daryl's disappointment, Rick still didn't say anything. He just let himself be dragged back to the large building by the young hunter.

When Rick had retrieved most of his sanity a few hours later, neither he or Daryl uttered a single word about what had happened earlier that day. They just went back to their usual routine, going out on runs to the nearest stores and other buildings for supplies and taking turns watching out for any Walkers.

Reality. It sucks sometimes.

A/N: For the past couple of days I've done nothing but watch the entire third season of The Walking Dead and I just wanted to write something short and stupid and pointless. I think I did just that...I guess, I dunno. *shrugs*

Still...hope ya'll liked this. :3
