THE ACCIDENT

CHAPTER ONE

Robin was driving the rental car on her way home, she was going to surprise Mac. She needed to be in Port Charles for the birth of her baby, it was just right. He was conceived here and he would be born here. She didn't know how she was going to tell Jason she was pregnant although he may be able to tell, she had a bump to make anyone proud. She was almost five months pregnant.

A semi was coming down the road toward her when suddenly it was in her lane and she didn't have time to get out of the way and he crashed into her at full force sending her small car airborne. The driver woke up when he heard the scraping of metal and tried to correct it but it was already too late. Robin's car landed in the ditch face down. The driver of the truck immediately called for help and tried to get to Robin to help her. He tried to get the door open to pull her out because the car was on fire. He succeed in pulling her out and away from the car as it burst into flames. Pretty soon you could hear the sirens in the distance. He tried to talk to her to get her to wake up to no avail she was unconscious. He realized she was badly hurt. The ambulance and police arrived and they put Robin on a stretcher and loaded her in the ambulance treating her as they went to General Hospital. The police asked the driver what happened and he told them that he had fallen asleep at the wheel and crashed into the small car with the woman in it. They arrested him.

The ambulance pulled into General Hospital and Dr. Monica Quartermaine and Dr. Tony Jones were waiting for the ambulance; they had called in and told them they needed immediate attention to a Jane Doe. Monica met the ambulance and noticed it was Robin. She asked the attendants what had happened to her and they told her about the accident. She told them to follow and asked them as she rushed Robin into General Hospital if they came in contact with her blood. They said yes all though they wore gloves, they still got some of her blood on them. Monica informed them the patient was HIV+ and to get cleaned up right away and that they would have to be tested.

Monica motioned for Bobbie Spencer to join her. She told Bobbie to have someone call Mac and tell him that Robin was there in the ER and he was needed right away because Monica feared that they would have to operate on Robin.

Monica had Dr. Alan Quartermaine paged because he was Robin's primary doctor when she lived in Port Charles. Alan came in and saw Monica and Tony working on a patient not realizing it was Robin. Alan finally saw her face and was shocked. He asked what her condition was and they said it was not good. Alan noticed a bump in her stomach and wondered if she could possibly be pregnant. He told Monica this and she said to get a blood sample and rush it so they would know what they were up against.

Alan himself drew her blood and rushed down to the lab and performed a pregnancy test which turned up positive. He rushed back up to the ER room that Monica had Robin in and told Monica and Tony that she was indeed pregnant. This changed things drastically. They needed to operate because she had internal bleeding and a punctured lung. They couldn't wait.

Alan made the decision to have them operate before Mac got there. He would take the blame if something happened. Monica who was worried about Robin decided to do the surgery so her and Tony scrubbed up so they could operate and Bobbie joined them.

Alan waited for Mac to show up to sign papers although he had already gave the okay for the surgery. Mac came running in a few minutes later. Alan told him what he did, that if Robin had waited she would die; he told Monica and Tony to operate but they needed Mac's signature on the papers. Mac agreed to sign the papers.

After Mac signed the papers Alan asked Mac "Did you know Robin was pregnant?"

"She's pregnant?" A stunned Mac told Alan. "I didn't know that."

"I noticed her bump and ran a blood test and found out she's pregnant."

"Will the baby survive?" Mac asked concerned for his niece and his great niece or nephew.

"They will do the best they can. Her lung is punctured and she has internal bleeding, Mac that's what they could tell. There may be some other problems we just don't know at this point. Monica and Tony are operating on her. She's got the best and they will do everything they can to save her and the baby." Alan told Mac.

"I know they will. I am just worried about my niece and her baby." Mac said.

A nurse came up to Alan and Mac and told them that the news crew was there and wanted a statement about the commissioner's niece. Mac told the nurse to tell them no comment.

Mac said to Alan, "Oh no, I haven't called Felicia." Mac takes out his phone and tries to call his wife to no avail. She didn't answer. He would try again in a little while.

Across town Jason and Sonny were discussing business with the TV on when they noticed a picture of Robin on the screen so they turned the TV up. "Late breaking news a semi hit Police Commissioner Mac Scorpio's niece Robin Scorpio's car sending it airborne and the driver of the semi pulled Ms. Scorpio out right before it burst into flames. Ms. Scorpio's at General Hospital undergoing life threatening surgery as we speak. We will bring you more information as it becomes available. Our prayers are with Commissioner Scorpio and his family."

"Robin!" Jason exclaimed. "What is she doing back here? Sonny, I have to go to the hospital."

"I'm coming with you that is my little sister." Sonny grabbed his coat and so did Jason and they run out the door.
