Hey Peeps! This is my first story. Be nice. It's short but it was kinda fun to write. If you have any comments or ideas, please be sure to leave them. I'm new to this but I'm always open for ideas.
"I can't be friends with coons. My daddy won't allow me to."
Mercedes' frown stretched across her face, marring her young 7 year old features with anger.
"I'm aint a coon!" She put her hand on her hip, sassing the blonde hair boy, currently kicking rocks on the ground, scared to look Mercedes in her eyes.
Sam picked up a rock and threw it at a nearby trailer home, watching it bounce off the screen door.
"My daddy said you a coon." Sam wasn't sure what the term meant but he knew it wasn't good based on how his father said it. And his father was always right.
"Well, my daddy said yo' daddy is a honky!" Mercedes kicked the ground, watching dust particles fly everywhere, including in both her and Sam's face.
"Ahhhhhhhhh! You kicked dirt in my eyes!" Sam screamed, wiping at his face. He tried to take a step forward and tripped on a scattered stick. Sam continued to wail not noticing Mercedes cries and face covered with dirt.
After a few more wails, Mercedes suddenly ceased her tears and looked at her hands, then back at Sam.
"Look!" She squealed, pointing at Sam's face. Sam hiccupped then picked himself off the ground, his anger subsiding immediately due to curiosity.
He picked up a tire hub cab that was next to one of the junk piles near his trailer and looked at his reflection. His pale face was now covered with brown dirt and clumps of wet particles smeared near his eyes.
"We're the same color now! So you a coon too!" Mercedes shook with laughter, falling to the same ground Sam had just picked himself up from. Her giggles continued even after she heard the slam from Sam's trailer.
