Hey :D! Welcome to 'Bundle of Joy'. This is basically going to be a place for me to post drabbles/one-shots/random ramblings about Kate & Rick having kids :D I was planning on writing a big multi-chap fic but then my English work just got too much. Ugh.
This story actually came to me in English when we were going over writing papers and one question was "Write a short story with the title 'Like Father, Like Son' and this was born.
Disclaimer: Don't own them, never will, don't mock me.
for Tasha.
Like Father Like Son
The overwhelming feeling of relief she felt when she stepped off the elevator showed her just how much she had missed her family. It was her second day back at work after her long maternity leave and it was quite a change for her. She'd been married to her job for so long but now it felt almost like a foreign country to her. She unlocked the front door to the loft, toeing off the six inch spike heels she'd missed too much. Hanging her jacket on the coat rack, she smiled when she saw the tiny dark blue pea coat hanging proudly beside all the rest of them. She sighed loudly to herself, it had been a long day. She had to chase one suspect all around the auditorium and she had a nasty interrogation with the other. All day, she had had visions of going home and slipping into a warm bath. But now that she was home, all she wanted to do was hug the two most important men in her life for a long time.
There was a small lamp on at the side of the couch otherwise the loft was in darkness. She listened but couldn't hear the regular sounds of Rick mulling around and Sam's happy gurgling. She paused as she rounded the corner into his study. There he was, her husband lying on the couch, one hand resting behind his head and the other supporting the 10 month old sleeping on his chest. The corner of her mouth turned up as she watched the gentle rise and fall of Rick's chest that made Sam look like he was floating.
She moved onto the couch, he bought it specifically because it was big enough for two people. She snuggled into Rick's side, her eyes instantly slipping shut at the whole familiarity of his smell. She rested her hand on Sam's back, rubbing slow circles over his shoulder blades as she slipped into a peaceful sleep.
Rick woke up later to find a piercing pair of blue eyes looking at him. The toothy grin that appeared almost immediately made him laugh and rub his son's cheek. The teething toddler drooled over his father's t-shirt and Rick groaned.
"Yuck" he said making a face as he sat up. He hadn't counted on a small body at his side almost falling off the couch.
"Castle!" Kate yelped, still half asleep. He flashed her a boyish smile and she found it hard to keep up her angry expression.
Sam chose that moment to gain their attention again.
"Mama." He said, wriggling in his father's arms to try to get closer to his mother. The look on Kate's face instantly brightened as did Rick's.
"Did he just say-"
"I think he did!"
"Oh my god."
"Oh my god."
"Although, makes sense that his first word would be Mom" Rick said, pulling his wife back onto the couch with him.
"Why's that then, Mr Castle?" She asked snuggling into his side while she held their giggling son on her lap.
"Things like that, they're in the genes."
"I have absolutely no idea what you mean."
"Well, his first word would have to be the name of the most important person in his life. And that same person is the most important person in my life too."
"Like father like son." She said, smiling softly. They sat there for a few moments, the only sound in the office was the occasional gurgle from Sam. Kate looked down at her son, the identical image of his dad. Cobalt blue eyes and all. Wait a minute, wait a minute,
"Has he got a star wars onsie on?"
Hope you enjoyed it :3! Review?
