"Shepard I... I love you too..." Garrus confessed and felt her fingers linger against his for a moment, although it felt like an eternity to him, before her hand slipped away and she ran off into the battlefield. He watched her run and he realized what it meant to feel complete and utter heartbreak. Truly, the last time he felt this way was when his mother died. It was an intense, overwhelming despair that made him feel like a child all over again.

That was when he awoke with a start and sat up. It was true he never had nightmares, not in the normal sense, but every so often his subconscious would remind him of a distant memory that he usually tried to forget. Tonight it was of the night when he thought he had lost Shepard, his then commander and love of his life. It was the worst night of his entire existence. After a moment of composing himself, Garrus looked at the sleeping form next to him. She was beautiful, soft and most importantly, alive. He stared at Shepard for a moment, brushed a stray hair from her face and noticed a small smile playing at the edge of her lips. Her eyes slowly blinked open. "Garrus?" She said groggily as she sat up. "Whats wrong?"
"Oh, umm, nothing. I'm fine. I didn't mean to wake you up dear. You looked so peaceful." He said and she smiled. "Yeah. It was a pretty great dream." She replied. "Hmm, well that makes one of us." He said. Shepards eyes furrowed for a moment before she crawled over and curled up on his lap and laid her head on his chest. "Tell me about it." She told him, almost in her commander voice so he couldn't say no. He wrapped his arms around her. "It wasn't so much a dream as it was a memory." Garrus was silent for a minute before continuing. "It was when you left me on the battle field during the war." Garrus felt her entire body freeze and tense up in his arms. "Obviously its not a fond memory..." He said. "Yeah, obviously." Shepard replied hoarsely. Garrus cleared his throat before speaking again. "So... What was your dream about?" He asked. Shepard smiled at him.
"Well, I could tell you... Or I could show you..." And then she tackled him onto the bed, planting her lips onto his.

Soon the bad dream was forgotten as they made love well into the night. The nightmare was over and they had each other. That was all that mattered.
